It's bizarre that the most deplorable grifters are the ones willing to pass legislation that goes against the NRA grain.

Arming teachers though
03-09-2018 , 05:12 PM
Do Americans realize the rest of the civilized world thinks you're completely insane arming teachers?
03-09-2018 , 05:14 PM
America has never cared in the slightest what the rest of the world thinks, to do so would be un-American

Pissing off foreigners is feature, not bug.

I think the score is something like 3 against NRA and 1 for NRA on what Rick Scott passed. It's definitely a change from 100% NRA win.

Most Americans think it's insane arming teachers. But that's how powerful the NRA is.

I mean I don't think anyone is pissed off. It's not our kids that are getting their heads blown off every time it needs to be proven guns aren't safe.

So since I don't know the answer to this; what percentage of Americans would vote in favor of banning private ownership of lethal weapons? That means your military grade assault rifled as well as the little pistol you have hidden near your bed that are excellent suicide assists or accidental kid killers. All weapons that everyone owns would be banned. It would be acknowledged that the average person is just incapable of safely handing a firearm and it sucks but we have to do this for the greater good.

Percentage that votes for?

Unimaginable that we refuse as a society to do anything to prevent this from happening in the future.

We're not pissed off because this is something you can't export; we are shocked and amused.

David Frum is quite an odd one. He is still at his core a Republican (Axis of Evil) but is pretty much standing side-by-side with left-wing views throughout Trump's administration.

Gonna suck for liberals who read his stuff once they see who he really is when the GOP establishment takes back control.

Then we turn on him when that happens. GOP establishment is ****ty version of status quo. Trump is an existential threat to democracy.

Whatever it takes. You never ever ever ever (ever) see conservatives bitching and demanding a purity test for someone who switches sides.

Frum is a neocon and the intellectual core of neocons were former liberals whose bedbug was they wanted the stronger foreign policy that the conservatives were offering. The culture war stuff really wasn't their forte though you'll find some dipping their toes in because they picked up the fight through osmosis.

In any case Democrat foreign policy is virtually neocon now anyways. Almost no Democrat politician argues about getting out of Afghanistan or Iraq or the forever war on terror, about the morality of drone strikes, etc. There's no isolationist Democrats arguing to dismantle the worldwide footprint of America military bases, etc. Like Neo liberals to free marketeers, Democrats basically follow the same general Conservative foreign policy path but claim to make it more humane, so shifting from neocon conservative to democrat isn't that big of a jump.

I mean, I guess 56% technically qualifies as "most". 80% of Republicans are in favor.

Satisfaction aside, most Americans (61 percent) said they believe the government and society are capable of preventing shootings like the February 14 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. About a third, 36 percent, said such shootings are unavoidable.
Hard to say which is less correct, the notion that mass shootings cannot be avoided or the notion that American government and society are capable of preventing them.

US foreign policy has shown no ideological character in decades. Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama-etc. is basically a continuous policy, based on hegemonic control of energy interests at whatever cost. Trump of course doesn't know what his foreign policy is, which is why he fired Tillerson, but the Dems/Repubs march to the beat of the same drummer on all matters foreign.

Lol Florida. Dude was gonna plead guilty if Florida didn't seek death penalty. Take a ****ing guess what Florida is gonna do. How much time and money is this gonna cost? $50 million? $100 million?
03-13-2018 , 05:12 PM
Move trial to Texas imo.
