At this point, believing in facts and science make you a Democrat. Running news programming that verifies statements and deals in facts is inherently biased toward Democrats.
That's the problem, and I don't know what the solution is. Every time someone from the right - even a hard right winger - flips, they're just immediately labeled a traitor and a bleeding heart liberal.
I do agree, though, that the mainstream media should stop pandering to hardliners on the right with column inches and airtime. THAT is shifting the discourse of the rest of us toward them somewhat, and none of them are watching any of the rest of the coverage, so it's a net loss for society as a whole - assuming that society largely wishes to operate in a political spectrum where facts matter.
Like, I normally only lean slightly left of center. Right now I want to see the GOP destroyed politically so that there can be a rebirth of a moderate conservative party... One that is capable of compromise and responsible governing. One that believes in facts and scientific evidence. I don't want to see them demolished so that Democrats can rule in totality for 10-20 years... I want to see a quick cycling to where we can find common ground with the opposition party.
