sure man, as soon as Faux News embraces the "infotainment for white nationalists" label, I'm all down for pretending actual facts are "liberal"
02-10-2018 , 08:31 PM
That's nonsense. The mainstream media is not liberal, and if they openly embrace it without drastically altering the content of their opinion pieces (and a decent chunk of the "news") then the overton window will only move further right.

At this point, believing in facts and science make you a Democrat. Running news programming that verifies statements and deals in facts is inherently biased toward Democrats.

That's the problem, and I don't know what the solution is. Every time someone from the right - even a hard right winger - flips, they're just immediately labeled a traitor and a bleeding heart liberal.

I do agree, though, that the mainstream media should stop pandering to hardliners on the right with column inches and airtime. THAT is shifting the discourse of the rest of us toward them somewhat, and none of them are watching any of the rest of the coverage, so it's a net loss for society as a whole - assuming that society largely wishes to operate in a political spectrum where facts matter.

Like, I normally only lean slightly left of center. Right now I want to see the GOP destroyed politically so that there can be a rebirth of a moderate conservative party... One that is capable of compromise and responsible governing. One that believes in facts and scientific evidence. I don't want to see them demolished so that Democrats can rule in totality for 10-20 years... I want to see a quick cycling to where we can find common ground with the opposition party.

Outlets like the NYT and WaPo put out right-wing columns to provide balance and not get a reputation as left-wing propaganda.

Thing is that this isn't about left-wing vs right-wing. This is about reality vs fantasy.

Wasting space on right-wing rhetoric gives it credibility that it clearly does not deserve. These papers should be posting the truth rather than giving right-wing delusions lip service in order to provide a "balanced view" to the masses.

NYT is just pure garbage, yesterday they ran a HEY NOW MAKE SURE LAWFUL GUN OWNERS ARE RESPECTED opinion piece

That rag is good for wiping my ass only

Probably just a coincidence that as things are looking grim for the GOP in an election year the NYT and WaPo are in a deplorable-hiring arms race

Unfortunately I probably have some royalty money from that book in my bank account.
I played countless hours of poker with this guy before I knew who he was.
Weak tight, didn't really seem to get it. Over the course of two years he never really improved.

You will never guess who had a terrible editorial in the NYT about playing poker!

I mean, I expected a horrible piece, but that just totally blew my expectations away.

This was a weird paragraph from that op-ed

Quote:
I guess there was one exception, though it didn’t involve any tension. I was at a table where the four players to my immediate left and right were ethnically Croatian, Afghan, Korean and Indian. All four had apparently grown up in the United States, judging from their perfect colloquial English. The conversation turned to children, and I revealed that my daughter was engaged to an Italian — a real Italian, living in Bologna. A silence ensued. Then the Afghan asked earnestly, “Do you trust him?” The others murmured that they wondered the same thing. I was in the midst of a bunch of American guys being solicitous of one of their own and dubious about foreigners. And I said to myself, is this a great country or what.
Does he ask everybody's nationality before he plays or does he just assume there from one place or another? Not sure how people from four different countries not trusting some guy they never met based on his nationality makes America a great country either.

Also the whole poker acting as an equalizer among players is pretty absurd. Maybe among a bunch of regulars who know each other or a home game, it's a cordial environment. But against a bunch of randos angle shooting, slowrolling and trying to put each other on tilt, it's everybody for themselves.

Been a while since I saw FoxNews's home page and man is it awful.

Watching FoxNews only is like having a diet entirely comprised of McDonald's food.

Meh, McDs probably has some nutritional value. I’d say it’s more like a diet of slim Jims and monster energy drinks

MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show was the most-watched show in all of cable TV Thursday, with a total audience of nearly 3.2 million viewers. Maddow's ratings were high enough to put the show on the Top 20 list of programs on all of television, landing at #12 behind shows like Big Bang Theory, Grey's Anatomy and Will & Grace.

Maddow, who has been focusing relentlessly on the investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the campaign of Donald Trump, often devoting long segments to methodically reviewing documents and timelines relating to the unfolding investigation that has shaken the White House and threatened Trump's presidency.

Maddow's ratings came on a big night for the network, with three of the top ten shows on all of cable, including The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell (#5) and All In with Chris Hayes (#6). MSNBC, which had record ratings in 2017 and finished second to long-time cable news leader Fox News in the February ratings period, took a decisive overall win Thursday, beating both Fox News and CNN among viewers 25-54, the demographic coveted by advertisers. Fox News remained on top among total viewers.

At 9 p.m., Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity, who has been the top host in cable news for five straight months, fell behind Maddow (3.146 million to 2.976 million). FNC's Tucker Carlson was third overall (2.599 million), followed by Fox News' Laura Ingraham (2.333 million).
