Re: Official MSNBC/Fox/CNN/cable news containment thread

Quote:
On Nov. 9, Tina Fey was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor during a made-for-TV ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. But when PBS broadcast the event the following Sunday, part of Fey's acceptance speech was missing -- specifically, the part where Fey made fun of her favorite "Saturday Night Live" target, Sarah Palin. The following remarks were cut from the broadcast:

"And, you know, politics aside, the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women — except, of course, those who will end up, you know, like, paying for their own rape kit ’n’ stuff. But for everybody else, it’s a win-win. Unless you’re a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years — whatever. But for most women, the success of conservative women is good for all of us. Unless you believe in evolution. You know what? Actually, I take it back. The whole thing’s a disaster."

Meh. They claim time constraints. 'We snipped from everyone' -- etc. Doesn't sound like a real issue (or censorship scandal; or conspiracy; or insider bias) to me, absent more damning evidence. (I mean, it's PBS for fark's sake!)

Also, they've hosted the whole clip unsnipped on their website, which rather thins the charge of censorship.

They did it because they are in fear of losing their funding and they do not want to upset conservatives right now.

Roger Ailes is awesome

Quote:
In an interview, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes told The Daily Beast's Howard Kurtz that he thinks President Obama is a far-left socialist
Quote:
"The president has not been very successful," Ailes said. "He just got kicked from Mumbai to South Korea, and he came home and attacked Republicans for it. He had to be told by the French and the Germans that his socialism was too far left for them to deal with."
And now a moment of tolerance from the HuffPo moderators

Are you asking whether it's good for MSNBC's ratings or profits to have a socialist on the air?

I can't say that I think it would have any effect on ratings or MSNBC's profits.

I think they pick women like mtv, i.e the hottest possible women but with a different demographic: old white guys.
I think the women are chosen to represent the hottest possible chick a 95% rational thinking 60-70 year old can believe he has a chance with and/or could have a relationship with- that being a blonde chick who is appraoching 40 who wants to settle down. If you think about it, it's pretty delciously evil.
A significant portion of Fox's audience is elderly men >>> blonde girls were considered more attractive in the heyday of the old guys >>> Fox's anchors consist mainly of attractive blondes who agree with the audience >>> ratings!!

They understand their demographic, and give them what they want.

SEN. JAY ROCKEFELLER (D-WV): "There's a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: 'Out. Off. End. Goodbye.' It would be a big favor to political discourse; to our ability to do our work here in Congress; and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future."
Im sure this would make you all happy especially the steward fans.

MSNBC and Fox news aren't licensed under the FCC because they are delivered via cable.

I oppose any sort of government censorship of the media.

Ailes calls NPR execs Nazis. Says Stewart is too polarized in his views.

Is there some sort of award given to people for being hyper-ironic?
