Just seen a clip of O'Reilly vs Lupe Fiasco in a debate. Lupe did a horrible job....he could have just called Obama a terrorist because of the Libya dealie......instead they bitched about Obama being a terrorist because of Afghanistan and made no good points what so ever. Lupe could have owned him but the whole clip was dumb as ****

The difference between Fox News and Jon Stewart is that Stewart is payed to be funny. Comedy Central doesn't care who he makes fun of as long as his show is funny and keeps bringing in viewers. As long as politicians and media figures set themselves up to be made fun of, there will be comedians making a living off of mocking them and thats all that Stewart does.

That wasn't a conclusion, it was an observation. Where's your ****ing thesis statement?

Unless your point is "Fox is participating", but then again, I ask, so what?

Is this a thing where you're legitimately not following the discussion or are you playing some silly rhetorical game?

Actually, I guess it doesn't matter, because I'm not going to elaborate on what I think is a pretty uncontroversial and obvious statement either way.

i was not following the discussion.

I've said this before and I still stand by it: the only people who have a problem with FoxNews are liberals, Democrats, people from other shows with lower ratings, and people who are paid to have a problem with it (i.e., jounralists, pundits and comedians).

If you think watching Fox News makes you stupid, then don't watch it.
I look forward to your paper dismissing the importance and effectiveness of propaganda throughout history.

What is hotdogfallacy's thesis here? Steward is a political commentator even though he says he's not?

I mean, yeah, he provides commentary on politics, in the form of saying "lol at these morons we elect to represent us contradicting themselves all the time" and "lol at what a terrible job the media does covering politics and the news" in a funny way. I also don't think Steward was denying that; he's denying being an activist, which I think he is correct in doing.

It would be funny if Wallace said, 'Oh you're not a political source eh? Really? Really. Well WE'RE not really a news channel! Have you ever wondered why it's so easy for The Daily Show to effortlessly get laughs with Fox News clips night after night, year after year? Did you think that was a ****ing accident? Let me ask you this, Jon STEWARD..........who's REALLY the comedy channel here? You!? You ****in' wannabe.'

Then he ripped off his mask to reveal Stephen Colbert.
06-21-2011 , 09:07 PM
Jon Stewart is amazing, and Wallace got wrecked, as usual.

Jon Stewart isn't a politician or a newsman, but if he were either, he'd be among the best in the field.

This whole " debate" is what is wrong with the MSM. The problem is that Steward has credibility because 1) he points out the hype and media hypocracy that is plain to see for everyone but that the MSM goes along with and 2) he acknowledges his own biases and describes his situation fairly honestly and accurately. This whole hubub about "Is Steward a political ideologue" is a symptom that even the MSM has become polarized, lazy, and sensationalist instead of investigatory, honest, and ethical. When Fox is going after a self described comedian to try and prove he is just like them, then the whole issue resolves itself.

Hey guys, I haven't kept up with the discussion or reviewed the relevant material, but I'll be god damned if that's going to stop me from acting like I know what I'm saying.

This is like at least the third time I can remember that a random TDS hater has come on here and called him "Steward" or misspelled his name in another hilarious fashion for days. It's weird that seems to be a theme among TDS conservative haters online.

HDF,

I'm still waiting for a statement along these lines.

end of post #566; i'll agree to disagree with you, if you don't think Stewart is not all that different from talking heads at fox. him saying that it is even insane to make such comparisons, because he is a comedian first, is what i take issue with the most.

Can you please cite an example of Stewart being as outright deceitful and/or hypocritical as the Fox commentators he mocks as part of his bread and butter?

Or, at least, give an example of a joke told by Stewart that's equivalent to something done on Fox.
06-22-2011 , 09:26 AM
again, i am not denying that Fox news is much more slanted and sometime distort the truth in the process, but most of that is just the nature of the 24/7 news networks. If Stewart was on 24/7, and competing for ratings, he would appear much more slanted than in his current format.
