Who Will Be The 2020 Republican Nominee? Who Will Be The 2020 Republican Nominee?

08-07-2017 , 12:44 PM
The New York Times trolled Trump by headlining this article noting potential 2020 primary challengers all weekend. Mike Pence managed to stifle laughter while claiming that he would not challenge his boss, but there are still a bunch of juicy possibilities.

The 2016 version of this thread turned out to be the GOAT politics thread and I wanted to get in on the ground floor for 2020.

Some contenders:

Spoiler:

President Donald Trump

A lot of folks are counting him out after a series of past and future setbacks, but Trump is a once in a generation political talent and if anyone can bounce back from serving as President of the United States, it is him. Front-runner.

Spoiler:

John Moustachio

Little is known about this broad-shouldered newcomer, but he has been variously spotted measuring for furniture in the oval office and supersetting lat raises in DC area gyms. Contender.

Spoiler:

Ted Cruz

This 2016 also-ran may take another stab at the throne. The most intelligent and handsome man in the Republican Party, advisers are nonetheless worried that his maniacal obsession with chocolate may hurt him with southern voters.

Spoiler:

Paul Ryan

Hahahahahahah this douchebag has no chance, but I thought I could get more mileage out of the Count Chocula jpeg.

Spoiler:

John Kasich in pancake makeup

Many have pointed out that Trump's victory is largely a matter of style over substance. Rumors are that several prospective candidates are consulting with handlers from professional wrestling to tweek their image. Look for this Rockin' Buckeye to make some noise in 2020!

Spoiler:

BOZZ HAWG

Bozz Hawg has come to this primary for two reasons: to eat enormous Italian sandwiches and to kick immigrant ass. And we are about out of mortadella!

Spoiler:

Shirtless Putin

His recent vacation pics suggest that he is testing the waters for a Republican primary run. I think a stunning election night write-in victory is more likely. Longshot.

Spoiler:

A Black Velvet Painting of Satan on the Toilet

The moderate wing of the party is likely to field a candidate and this painting is the current favorite. Speculation is that Trump may head off the threat by naming it to head the National Endowment for the Arts. No chance imo.

Who you got?

You're just recycling characters from the OOT crappy cartoon thread, aren't you?
08-07-2017 , 12:51 PM
i think it's no coincidence that ted cruz wants to take a "stab" at the republican primary, when he's widely suspected to be the zodiac killer

Crappy? These are the greatest cartoon characters our country has to offer!

Jeb!

trump if he's president at the time

guess anyone but ted cruz is going to be the same as the others really.

I figure there's a good chance someone like Kasich primaries Trump

Pence no chance unless Trump decides to pack it in

I'm hoping Giant Meteor swings back around.

I forgot Jeb was still around. For some reason I thought he got killed in one of those terrorist attacks, was confused I guess. Nothing would make me happier thaen to see him try to take on Trump again. Seriously, if I had some Koch brothers type wealth I would sponsor a Jeb campaign just for the lols.

538 had a discussion about this very topic this morning:

Speaking of cartoon characters - they note that Senator Tom Cotton has already visited Iowa this year; I have no idea who he is, but the very name "Tom Cotton" sounds like a racist caricature from a long suppressed Warner Brothers short. I am not even going to look up this guy's picture because I want to keep imagining him as a vaudeville-era blackface performer. Potential front-runner imo.

Think it will be Pence, Trump handing it over.

Don't think even Trump himself likes to have another four disastrous years.

Isn't Tom Cotton that guy who kept begging them not to throw him into the brier patch even though he really wanted to be thrown into the brier patch?

I thought that was Brier Rabbit. We actually had a copy of Brier Rabbit and the Tar Baby when I was kid

Bumping for Bill Weld who looks to be getting into the race. Weld was the 2016 Libertarian candidate for Vice-President who proved himself perhaps a little too big for the Party by being able to name at least one world leader. Thus jumping back to the big leagues, where I don't think it is too early to call him the easy favorite to secure the Republication nomination. Ladies and gents, the next president of the United States:

02-18-2019 , 12:51 PM
Mitt Romney might make a go.
02-18-2019 , 12:53 PM
If Kasich announces I am most likely registering Republican for the first time in my life.
02-18-2019 , 12:56 PM
Why?
02-18-2019 , 12:57 PM
I made a spreadsheet to keep track of all these nominees.

02-18-2019 , 01:10 PM
Kasich, Romney and all other republicans are horrible human beings.
02-18-2019 , 01:21 PM
I always get Bill Weld and Tuesday Weld mixed up.
02-18-2019 , 01:30 PM
IMO...

If:

1) Mueller report is complete and released by August 2019, and is a big "nothingburder"

And

2) Trump's national emergency declaration and wall $$$ passes the SCOTUS test by August 2019

There is a very good chance, > 25%, that Trump decides himself does not run for re-election.

Evidence...

What new "campaign promises" has Trump made since taking office? None that I can point to.

2016 Campaign Promises...
-- wall
-- defeat IS
-- NAFTA
-- IRAN Deal
-- SCOTUS appointments
-- Tax cut
-- begin pulling out of Afghanistan

Trump may decide he's accomplished what he set out to do and call it a career.
02-18-2019 , 01:41 PM
Lol, If Trump doesn't run its because he can tell which way the winds are blowing. In these divisive times, only one man can "Weld" us back together.
02-18-2019 , 01:43 PM
Lol @ Trump not running

Only way he doesn't run is if he is either dead or in jail. The guy's ego is too yuge for anything else.
