Does Ontario have Catholic education like Alberta. Dumbest system yet funding anything but public education

meh, it's not that bad. The systems are equally funded by the province

If Ford was really serious about finding “efficiencies” (Narrator: He’s not.), eliminating the Catholic school boards and consolidating everything under one umbrella would be a great place to start.

In positive news you now have Johnny Manziel, so that might work out.
More like the Conservative party sees the dumpster fire south of the border, then goes ahead and elects someone with similar qualities. Then, in spite of that, the party still gets majority status - which should indicate to you the level of animosity the electorate had for the Liberals.

Maybe he plans to stop the gravy train just like his brother did when he was mayor. There's always money in the gravy train.
06-08-2018 , 03:13 PM
Ya he'll stop the gravy train like Jesse James.

If only there was another option for the voters...

There wasn't, the NDP is a joke which probably would have been worse than Wynne, and at best would probably have been marginally better- but probably not.

Also, Rob Ford for all his terribleness did manage to turn around much of the city's finances from the disastrous Miller years

No, no he didn’t. The city’s budget shortfall is approaching unmanageable levels.

Their platform cost less than the PCs’!

Thread. Yup, doesn’t sound like Trump at all.

This thread delivers at a much higher level than I expected.

gtfo with that crap

Ford couldn't have turned around Toronto's finances - no one can. That town's fubared with their low municipal tax rate, a bloated council who likes to spend and doesn't understand the concept of cutting, along with the amount of crap they've taken on since the province downloaded so much onto them. They will need to go begging cap in hand to the province for the foreseeable future: have you seen the outstanding amounts required for community housing alone?

Charging more for energy at peak hours makes a lot of sense. The utilities must have the generation capacity for the peak load. If you can shift load away from the peak you need fewer power plants and with less peaky usage you need fewer of the more expensive plants that cycle on and off. The policy has resulted in technology for load shifting in many commercial and industrial applications.

Like many major initiatives started by the former government, peak energy pricing and the Smart Meter rollout is full of bungled decisions, mismanagement and what could uncharitably be called fraud and corruption.

Quick update from LOLONTARIO:

Our Trump-lite premier just announced his intention to cut the size of Toronto city council in half, purely out of spite and a desire to own the libs. Each councillor will now represent an area with roughly the same population as Topeka, Kansas (which, for the record, has a mayor and nine councillors). Oh, and he made the announcement on the deadline day for filing to run in the upcoming municipal election, throwing it into chaos just for the lulz.

Also, a literal nazi is running for mayor, and one of the three major Toronto dailies is a-ok with it.

Also our former city planner is running for mayor on the idea of having the city separate from Ontario and make our own province. Fun times.

i.e. resulting in the left-leaning downtown residents losing a number of councillors, without reducing (at least not nearly to the same extent) the number of councillors representing right-wing suburbanites. He also cancelled regional chair elections (appointed positions that were set to become elected this year), one of which his main conservative political rival was going to win.

James Sears is one of the more interesting candidates in this election. He is the editor of a neo-nazi newspaper, Your Ward News, and a former doctor. His license was revoked after he confessed to multiple counts of sexual assault following complaints from female patients. He also has worked as a pickup artist, offering to teach men how to seduce women.

This is a pretty good summary of what Ford's been up to: Doug Ford Year One: What’s happened so far in the new Ontario
07-28-2018 , 03:24 PM
Sears wasn’t even the one I was talking about! Nazis everywhere!
