Re: The Official LOLCANADA Thread

I'll put together a list of poor economic decisions with can be either attributed to corruption or mismanagement on the part of the ruling party if you really want a reason to vote someone other than Liberal. You can't have a party in power for 15 years and not expect some bureaucratic shenanigans. The PCs may end up having a similar track record, but to reward the Liberals with another 4 years is mental.

The Liberals absolutely deserve the comeuppance they are going to receive. That doesn't mean Doug Ford isn't an imbecile.

The weirdest part of this is some of the main aspects of corruption or mismanagement (abandonment of unions, privatization of social services) which people are mad about the liberals for..are conservative positions.

Exactly. Any thought that a Conservative government will fix what the Liberals have done wrong is laughable.

What's really remarkable (in a bad way) is that they managed to do that and STILL be the party of big, big government. This incarnation of the Liberal party can best be understood as having an unfailing and absolute faith that technocrats can design great societies. It's how you spend more money and get less - they're the kind of government that tries to solve, for example, a nursing shortage by hiring 50 VPs to work at hospitals having meetings about nurses instead of, you know, hiring 200 nurses.

No - I mean straight-up corruption, not government positions.

ORNGE, power plant scandal, that tire recycling company, eHealth and smart meters. That's off the top of my head and all involve wasting taxpayer money rather than an ideological position.

I don't disagree, but most of this is Dalton-era stuff that's up to 10 years old. That's all been litigated in prior elections. I'm thinking of the more recent stuff that has happened specifically in Wynne's government. The sale of Hydro One, the crazy growth in the debt, those are the issues of the day.

This is a good example of what I was referencing. A bunch of upper middle class bureaucrats who can handle an extra $100 a month for hydro design a system that promotes green energy but at higher rates. And they also try to nudge people's behavior by charging more for "peak hour" rates. It's a system that looks good on paper in a boardroom but not in practice.

I don't expect the Conservative government to give out absolutely pathetic energy contracts to any idiot that shows up to the door asking for money in return for a graph/presentation that looks similar to this:

Cause the Liberals did that...repeatedly.

Liberals ruined industry as Ontario went from the 2nd lowest energy rates on the continent to the most expensive! Let that sink in... we have so much super cheap hydro power (only Quebec has more...surprise they have the cheapest energy) and yet we have the most expensive energy.

Oh, and to outsiders who don't know anything about Canada, there aren't any social rights issues in play as those are all federal things in Canada, not provincial. Judges and such are also not done by the provincial government and aren't partisan either (kind of awesome) so basically it comes down to economic ideas.

Health care and education are both provincial responsibilities, and if you think either are improving in the next four years, you’re dreaming in technicolor.

The power plant scandal is literally the worst thing I've seen. They basically made a decision to cost the province > $1 billion so they could win some swing seats in a close election by moving a plant from a place that didn't want it- cause ugliness/pollution it to a place that did- cause jobs even though it would cost the province a fortune and be less efficient in the new place too.

The Liberals are essentially a populist government and the NDP has never seen a financial statement before thinking that mortgaging the future is a good idea so union leaders can make more money.

Meh, education is pretty decent and not in need of revamping. I mean it could improve, but nobody outside of a visionary is going to do that. Healthcare is both provincial and federal and I actually support two tier- countries with two tier have better systems than those with universal/not private.

Hazel McCallion (Deity) supported Ford too, so Ontario made the right choice.

Re: The Official LOLCANADA Thread

I live in Etobicoke and now Etobicoke's top hash dealer and member of the criminal Ford gang is Premier. What a disgrace. Crackhead Rob was by far the least criminal member of that family, he was just a user and a buffoon. Every family member, every in-law, every neighbourhood friend, and every associate of the Ford family has a dubious past. The sister got shot in the face. Twice.

Deeply ingrained into Etobicoke, the Ford's are the kind of people who still hang around the same friends they had in junior high. Mullet and Rush beer shirt-wearing goofs from the '80s.

Doug Ford knows nothing about anything. Provincial level Trump in that regard. Populist nonsensical platform based on "clean up the government" argle-bargle. https://www.ontariopc.ca/plan_for_the_people

Anyhow, my favourite clip from the Rob Ford debacle is when he admits he smoked up and then the reporter asks him...

Ontario looks at the dumpster fire that is the Trump administration and then elects someone worse.

In positive news you now have Johnny Manziel, so that might work out.
