According to the Atlantic article on Tom Steyer’s political organization, one of his staff was an online poker pro. Anyone know who it is?

My mom wants to have an email conversation about the great existential crisis facing our nation. And of course by that I mean this caravan of people coming from Honduras.

Does anyone have any non-biased links to what exactly is going on?

After that video of people being paid, the conspiritard in me is starting to wonder if the Russians are behind it or something to give Trump a huge winning midterm issue.

Dude, it’s hopeless. Come on.

This articles seems pretty good. http://www.latimes.com/opinion/edito...019-story.html

Quote:
Reportedly numbering about 2,000 people, the caravan has already crossed into Guatemala on its way to Mexico en route, for many of the migrants, to the United States. Such caravans, which have existed for years, are part publicity stunt by immigration advocates and part self-defense mechanism. The overland trip from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador is arduous and dangerous, so traveling in groups offers some protection from marauding gangs, rapists and others who prey on the desperate.

Rather than recognizing these caravans for what they are, the president sees them as an “assault on our country.” He went apoplectic in April when a caravan of about 1,200 Central American migrants moved through Mexico; government officials there dispersed most of the migrants and only about 150 reached the U.S. border. For comparison, so far this year, border agents have arrested an average of 42,651 migrants per month.

Funny how nobody seems to give a **** about what happens to the migrants who don't make it to their destination. I bet those are some devastatingly grim, heart breaking stories.

AMA about being a Honduran refugee who didn't make it to the US!
(aka: ask me anything about being a Sinaloa prostitute/sex slave)

Desantis sent me a mailer that has a large photo of Gillum on it. First time I can recall seeing a mailer with a picture of the opposing candidate. Wonder why.

I don't think that was his first instinct. Although the video was obvious nonsense, the caravan exists, as I assume you know. There are like 4,000 people in it. Last I read, they were shut out at the Mexico-Guatemala border.

Serious question: if a caravan of Guatemalan immigrants got to the US Mexico border, what is the optimal plan going forward? Would the plan change if there were 1000? 10000? 100000? All women and children?

Heartbreakingly the current optimal plan is to realize the US is a hellhole that will rip their families apart if they apply as refugees, and so to split up and try to sneak across.
10-20-2018 , 05:08 AM
Or **** just stay in Mexico, it may genuinely be better.

Optimal plan for who? For America as a country it's obviously to do nothing. Just let them walk in. For them, the other replies may be right. They may be better off not coming. For individual Americans the optimal plan is to help them if possible.

Ship 'em over to the Rust Belt, we got room and we need good ethnic food.

This is something that I've been curious about. At what point do asylum seekers go, "Oh **** it. Let's stay in Mexico."

For me, it'd be splitting up my family and taking children to places where they're all being molested.

This is basically our refugee resettlement policy (when we're admitting refugees into the country, at least). It's convenient when the most moral component of American foreign policy is also massively beneficial economically to the local communities affected!

Not that any of this matters since the whole story is obviously just complete and utter racist hysteria, but it's almost surely not even that large:

WSJ says 3000.

Reuters says "hundreds":

http://news.trust.org/item/20181020015542-5zzjs

Quote:
TECUN UMAN, Guatemala, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Hundreds of people in a caravan of migrants that crossed from Honduras into Guatemala staged a dramatic bid to breach the Mexican border on Friday, as local governments began preparing to disperse the convoy under pressure from Washington.
NBC News says 2000-3000; the 4000 number comes from our State Department who acknowledge 400 are no longer part of it:

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/imm...rump-s-n922086

Quote:
The internal document said roughly 400 of the roughly 4,000 migrants who fled poverty and violence in Honduras have been repatriated, which means they were either deported or voluntarily returned to their country.
Whether it's a few hundred or a few thousand, the incontrovertible fact remains mouthbreathers all the way up to the President are hyper-ventalating about a crowd roughly the size of a reasonably popular high school football game. These are just insane theatrics for the President's base of bloodthirsty savage racists to get them worked up and excited to vote for Republicans, the end.
