Meeting the UNMG is only
one of the goals of the bill. Notice how it doesn't say simply meeting the UNMG is it's only purpose, but that the UNMG is a part of a bigger policy.

No, the bill says it wants to achieve the UNMD. Nowhere in the bill does it say it will take the same strategy as the UN has proposed or even the same standards of funding. That's why it says its purpose is for the president to
develop a strategy to meet several goals, one of which is the UNMG.
Also, US support for the UNMG is nothing new. We supported it when it was first introduced in 2000 and reaffirmed our support a couple years ago.
