It's been like that in Philly for awhile. Several years ago I knew a guy who waited tables at Fogo de Chao, the Brazilian steakhouse with tableside meat service. My buddy told me that for the longest time the management donated the day's leftover food to a nearby homeless shelter, but the city stepped in and made them stop. The reasoning had something to do with food contamination fears. Now they throw a ****-ton of food away every night.
So... I guess it's better to toss out leftover filet mingon instead of giving it to a hungry person.
Logic fail IMHO.
