We recently found an anti-aging gene that could extend lifespan by 10%. So, maybe 77 or 88 even.

there was a time when i thought the idea of living into my 30's seemed horrific. im sure when im 70 i would rather be 71 than dead.

On the one hand, I like high standards. Think no Ray Moore's as judges. On the other, that's a whole lotta people who spent $100k (or more given opportunity cost) to end up with nothing but severe emotional distress.

I think they should probably have some kind of pre-law-school cut-off exam, indicative of bar passage. I mean, I'm pretty sure there would be a major outcry if 50% of people who go to med school did not become MDs. (Granted, this is the pass rate for one administration of the exam, including retakers, so the ultimate pass rate may be something like 65%).
Even at moderately ok schools the passing rate is pretty high. I assume the average is brought down a lot by very bad schools. I hope those schools aren't so expensive. My brother was worried about the exam and I won a prop bet that he'd pass.

My Dad got really depressed at 70. He's healthy as an ox and doesn't get depressed much. But I think the enormity of it just hit him. I could tell at the time w/o him even telling me. It's like his fire went out. He's muddling through it, but 80 is only a few years away and I'm worried how that's going to hit him.

I agree the 60s can be ok. But **** it, if you told me now I'd die on my 60th birthday I would be happy because I could have a blast the next 12 years. Instead we have to freak out saving money in case we live to 90. Seems sub-optimal.

My ex was obsessed with saving money because the women in her family live well into their 90s. We couldn't go on big vacations because of her fear of spending money, and it was the biggest sticking point in our relationship.

I'd rather just blow my wad now and die young (ish).

I think I'll be ok when I'm old if I make it. There hasn't been much longevity among the males in my family though.

Also having no kids - who's gonna look after me? The state? Yay.

I feel like my problems have prepared me for old age well. I can just accept all of it in a way others cannot. for example people no longer respecting your opinions isolation. i probably wont make it that long because of my liver. it is unlikely any twoplustwoer has drank as much as i have.

are you sure you're not going to have kids? just make a few really good friends then.

that reminds me, i got your message rep lol. i cant really respond because ive felt busy with work and udacity. i cant do a project when i have to work this much. posting on twoplustwo is easier than messaging people because it helps me fall to sleep like an old friendly addiction.

I'm 48. It's not impossible but unlikely I have kids. Also at some point it just gets silly. Current plan is to date a single mom with cool kids.

My ex had an abortion (as she said she would when we first started dating and I was ok with). That was almost certainly my closest chance. I try not to think about it much. I did tell her we could keep the kid if she wanted to. But she couldn't wreck her abs. Would have been a smart little bastard. Hopefully it would get her looks.

dating a single mom with cool kids seems like a good idea. I probably wont have kids either. most guys dont actually like me after awhile and its hard to have a relationship when you drink as much as i do.

my sisters boyfriend likes me a lot as a friend which suprised everyone because hes a really cool guy and people just assumed he would think i was kind of weird but we do stuff together which is really nice.
11-21-2017 , 03:18 AM
he has his own group of friends who are super cool and super smart so i like hanging out with them when i can. its like when i visit my cousins in new york and feel like im an elitist new yorker by osmosis.

i want to make a thread about the visegrad group but im too lazy to do it right.

Get rid of the unregulated (unlicensed?) law schools in CA and this probably would be drastically improved.

I think law school can be improved dramatically in lots of different areas, but bar passage rate isn't one I'm concerned about tbh. If you can't pass the bar, probably shouldn't be an attorney.
11-21-2017 , 10:52 AM
I've always heard that CA's bar exam was the most difficult in the country. There are tier 4 toilet schools is most states but their passage rates aren't as bad as CA's.

Thinkpieces about the hearts and minds of Trump voters are getting tiresome, but this one is worth the read just for the sheer exhaustiveness of the argument. Also, the lede about the economic anxiety of David Duke voters is fire.
