The point isn't that people are incapable of change

the point is that it's a bad look to roast people for liking the things you used to like (or, if you prefer, for making the same mistakes you made)

Two more GOP congresscritters retiring, both of them committee chairmen (Lamar Smith, Jeb Hensarling)

Both from Texas, both from gerrymandered districts: 5th, 21st (latter is a doozy - includes portions of both San Antonio and Austin (!!!) and a whole lot of rural area). Smith won 57/36 in his last election, maybe that could be a D pickup.

This is a dumb point, though.
11-02-2017 , 04:26 PM
No it isn’t.

It’s really just gloating that you arrived at some viewpoint before someone else. Like, is arriving at viewpoints a race that can be won somehow? Who cares if someone else takes longer to arrive at some viewpoint so long as they get there in the end?

****, LK is agreeing with me, I guess I should delete my account

It's a dumb point, though. Plenty of people learned dumb stuff when they were younger and then learned differently / changed their views, and now we all benefit from their spicy roasts of other people who haven't unlearned those dumb ideas.

You're basically saying that it's a valid point because, essentially, all roasts are "bad looks".

I think that's dumb.

The burns on Riverman and pvn are both completely clean, come on people.

Pvns point is correct basically, its violating social rules.

Meh, it’s poor shaming. You weren’t told what classes you could and couldn’t take with your student loans.
11-02-2017 , 06:22 PM
Those are loans. You have to pay them back. This is more like a grant, and you are told what you cannot use that money on. I mean the very nature of it is restricted in the first place. It's money you can only use on food.

Billionaire Joe Ricketts just shut down the most widely read local online news sites in NYC/Chicago after the writers voted to unionize. Terrible.
11-02-2017 , 06:39 PM
Horrible for the labour movement and horrible for local news. Ricketts should be ashamed of himself, but I doubt he's capable of that emotion.
11-02-2017 , 06:48 PM
Just to underscore how big of a blow this is, Gothamist/DNA Info are responsible for shining light on lots of corruption across NYC. Tons of reporting that the NYT wouldn't touch but that was vital. Ricketts also just deleted the websites--you can't even access the archives any longer.
11-02-2017 , 07:08 PM
And we should give people like Ricketts billions in tax cuts so they can trickle it down on us plebs. What dickheads.

So are we shaming them that they can't buy beer with food stamps? If you're just giving them money to buy whatever they want that's one thing. But if you're gonna call it "food stamps" where the requirement for "food" seems to be "you can pour it into your mouth and it won't immediately kill you" - I reject that concept.

Red Bull is not food. Soda is not food. It's caustic sugar water that has massive negative health consequences (just like beer) and we already have a massive obesity epidemic in this country.

Right, but if you dispute the definition of "food" to be anything but exactly what it currently is, that's poor shaming.

How about take away soda, candy and gum but add toilet paper, soap and diapers and call it "necessity stamps" or something. I'm all for that. Stop punishing healthy families on the program who have less $$ so other families can have soda. Use all the program money for more important necessities and actual food.

Lol at poor shaming. And also.. I'm pretty sure you are restricted in what you can do with your student loans

Edit: In case it's not clear, I disagree with kerowo's post and agree with AllTheCheese's.

Enjoy Trump's 2nd term y'all

11-02-2017 , 08:25 PM
Is Nina Turner chair of Bernie's campaign or something?
11-02-2017 , 08:29 PM
She's president of "Our Revolution" which is apparently a Bernie-aligned PAC.

Which reminds me, have you ever noticed how Trump & his minions NEVER go at Sanders like at all? This kind of stuff must be why.

They're still at the Wayback Machine, at least.

Why not put them in poor houses, that way we can make sure they aren’t spending our tax dollars on iPhones or cable.

I don’t know what the definition of food is for food stamps and if soda isn’t on it, so be it, but when you start saying what you don’t like the poors spending your tax dollars on you are close to sounding like someone who thinks being poor is a moral failing instead of an economic one.
