Trump gonna clean house if Republicans lose house and senate.

Either that or claim the elections are rigged and that millions of illegal immigrants voted Democrat.

Everyone is quitting no matter what happens. WaPo article today about it. Can only imagine who’s left to fill the bench, will probably just send a resume collection email out at Brietbart or something.

I'm sure Jared will find all of the replacements on Craigslist.

Or Stormfront if he wanted to really capture his audience.

How are we handling tomorrow? Just one big thread? I saw goofy already made a non-Congress thread, would be a bit tedious to have to have multiple threads open IMO, especially considering I'll probably also have 3 live streams, NYT, 538, Twitter, etc. all open too.

If the democrats somehow win the senate it's going to be interesting to see who he can actually get confirmed.

The idea of Trump dealing with a Democratic senate is pretty amusing. can you imagine the level of crybaby whining? I'm not even talking about the investigations, I'm just thinking about him trying to get regular business done.

Of course, this is assuming Schumer has any balls. He'll probably just roll over like a good boy and give trump whatever he wants.

Obviously they should laugh their asses off and do nothing like R's would do.

and none of us expect them to do that.

The 2 week self-exile from Politics (and news in general) resulted in:

1) Me being less stressed out

2) Additional time to spend on other activities

3) A realization that even when making a concerted effort to do so, it is extremely difficult to avoid hearing about current events

But the greatest gain for me has been learning not to sweat the small things. Following every tweet some idiot politician or journalist makes is akin to self-harming. Most of that **** never comes to fruition anyway. Trump tweets something stupid, people get triggered, none of it actually happens. You get stressed out over nothing. I've learned to steel myself against those things and worry only about the things I can control.

I'm here to post for the election but am considering a longer self-exile in the future. See what happens.

If you make chillaxing posts you might help others from pooping their pants over every Tweet, tho.

Yeah, should definitely be a single "November 6 Gameday" thread.

Anyone ever go to a candidate election night party? There are a few near by and I’ve never been. You know the events where you see the candidate go to the podium to speak and concede or give a victory speech.

Worth going to one or are they snoozers?

I did not realize this existed until just now: Current Affairs wrote a Why you should never, ever listen to Nate Silver piece in 2016

Quote:
Yet bizarrely, in the days after the election, Silver was bragging about his performance. Silver insisted that after Election Night, he felt vindication, and scoffed that some major pundits had been “smugly dismissive of Trump’s chances.” Looking back on Silver’s record of statements on Trump, one wonders to which pundits he may have been referring. For over a year (July 2015 to Aug. 2016) he wrote smug “dear media” letters about Trump-hype and called Trump’s strategy “delusional,” insisting that Trump just didn’t understand the math. Having expressed regret after the primary for “acting like a pundit” and underestimating Trump, in the general election he was still acting like a pundit and underestimating Trump.
Quote:
That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with Nate Silver, just that nobody should ever pay any attention to him. Nate Silver will probably always be the best poll data analyst. The problem is that poll data analysts are completely ****ing useless in a crisis. They don’t understand anything that’s going on around them, and they’re powerless to predict what’s about to happen next. Listening to anything they have to say is very, very dangerous. If you want to change anything, you’ve got to forget Nate Silver forever. That’s because he tells you entirely about the world as it looks to him right now, rather than the world as it could suddenly be tomorrow. He has no idea what the outer boundaries of the possible are. Nobody does.
I think the piece is mostly wrong, in that it slanders as "hedging" the reality of statistics that outcomes are not certain, but it's at least funny and refreshing to see someone fire SHOTS

Frum on his debate with Bannon.

Cliffs:
If I see you reading a book that I dislike, I have no right to grab it from you; therefore, you shouldn't protest when white supremacist nazis are invited to speak in public.

It's confusing though, because he claims
Quote:
I personally would not accept an invitation to debate “Resolved, husbands should be allowed to beat their wives,” or “Resolved, the white race is the best race.” I would strenuously object if any organization in which I had a role proposed to mount such a debate. If your group undertook to do it, I’d of course pay the taxes for your police protection, but I would not be happy about it
yet to debate Bannon is to debate “Resolved, the white race is the best race.”

He's also pissed the incompetent organizers announced he lost the debate when in fact it was a tie. He says some other stuff but I stopped reading because I don't really GAF what he has to say.

I mean, get out and vote but JFC you're going to want to remedy the bolded assuming you weren't 100% joking.

It will sort itself out on its own. Probably 1 high volume threadzilla and a couple less active but more focused ones.

Yea I remember when Trump was polling at 35% in the primaries clearly ahead of everyone else, and Nate was putting out round-table discussion articles where the whole 538 crew would SELLLL on his 8/1 Predictit odds while laughing uproariously about the prospect of anyone thinking he had a chance.

Somehow he's managed to retcon this production as being the most right (least wrong) about 2016. Sure Nate is overall great and still a very valuable resource, but he certainly hasn't chosen to eat the massive piece of humble pie that's been sitting in front of him.

Not sure what exactly you mean. Should I follow every tweet some idiot politician or journalist makes?

Obviously, every is an exaggeration in my initial post. There are far too many incompetent politicians and journalists to read every single one of them. But staying away from Twitter has been a net positive for me. If it wasn't for my family being on Facebook, I'd probably stop using that as well.

Fretting over the minutiae of political affairs can (and for me does) have a negative effect on your emotional well-being. I've never actually self-harmed in my life and even if I did I doubt it'd be over something like politics. But the effect on my mood is negative. So to continue to do something that you know to be bad when you are not compelled to do it by an outside force would be in a way self-harming.

Disengaging has been good for me. But to completely disengage feels like an abdication of my responsibility. I guess it's about finding a middle ground.

Checking in on Tesla

Quote:
When a worker gets smashed by a car part on Tesla’s factory floor, medical staff are forbidden from calling 911 without permission.

The electric carmaker’s contract doctors rarely grant it, instead often insisting that seriously injured workers – including one who severed the top a finger – be sent to the emergency room in a Lyft.

Injured employees have been systematically sent back to the production line to work through their pain with no modifications, according to former clinic employees, Tesla factory workers and medical records. Some could barely walk.

The on-site medical clinic serving some 10,000 employees at Tesla Inc.’s California assembly plant has failed to properly care for seriously hurt workers, an investigation by Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting has found.
Checkin' in on Musk too

Quote:
Musk complained about “unfair accusations” that Tesla undercounts its injuries and promised “first-class health care available right on the spot when people need it.”

Earliest polls close at 6 EST.

Earliest Polls to close will likely be VA at 7 PM. Brat’s congressional seat is going to be the canary in the coal mine. If Brat loses, giddyup here comes the wave/tsunami. If Brat wins, we’re in for a long night.

Edit: Ponied above about 6 pm poll close. That said, I still think Brat is the canary in the coal mine. I’ll be following that first.

Is it too late for some extra FU donations? I'd like to focus on races with a chance of recounts/challenges, assuming that campaign donations can be used for this.

A handy guide for just that!

Cliffs: Polls close in the first districts (including KY-6 featuring Amy McGrath) at 6pm ET, the real **** starts happening when polls close at 7pm ET in Florida/Georgia/Virginia. At 8pm we'll start hitting maximum chaos.

I'm leaving work early to watch this go down on the Best Coast.
