One of the biggest and least spoken of problems in America is that too many people conflate patriotism and nationalism to the point where they are used interchangeably. Nationalism is unwavering support of a government of a country whereas patriotism is support for a set of ideas a country is supposed to symbolize. Because of this lack of nuance, supporting the government regardless of its actions is regarded as being a "true" American.
The reality is that there is nothing
less American than blind support of a government run amok. Trump supporters are some of the least American people in existence. Yeah, their fathers and forefathers fought for our freedoms but because of fear, they give up those freedoms without a fight. It's cowardice to the nth degree.
