I'd hold both equally responsible. Both have had the presidency and control of congress and neither did a damn thing about the number of people incarcerated.

Do you consider the Fair Sentencing Act not a damn thing? Because while Id agree that there has been shameful activity by both political parties, I don't think your characterization is accurate.

I would agree with that. But you are missing the point of my post, which is no one vigorously defended the govt in days of past presidents as they do today. You had some knuckleheads who defended the Iraq war because "Sadaam is gonna attack us with WMD's" or "Sadaam was in on 9/11." But you never saw people cheerleading for big govt like today.

You are correct, I concede the argument. Evil republicans want perpatrators of nonviolent victimless crimes in prison and the benevolent sensible democrats don't want them incarcerated they just can't do anything about it.

Now, let's look at the military budgets, that's a big part of our government. Which party, do you think, wants to cut the Defense budget?

So we're just going to ignore the Fair Sentencing Act and assorted sentencing reductions? OK, good talk.

WTF are you talking about, I think the military budget could and should be cut by about 60% and I don't want nonviolent drug users in jail? I agree with you!!! The only point of my post is in the past I knew no one who constantly defended the actions of the government. Today that's not the case.

You're going to have to excuse me, I like to focus on one thing at a time. I'm pretty slow. I'm still working on this prior quote by you:

Quote:
There are so many people(mostly people who vote dem) that don't just like but love government. The bigger the better. Many people genuinely get upset when they hear someone complaining about taxes, locking up millions of people and government waste.
You say there are many people (mostly Dem.) that love government, the bigger the better.

On the whole, which party wants the bigger Defense Department?

The crappy republican party. But they are not the ones that get upset everytime someone disagrees with the actions of government.

They get real upset when someone disagrees with Voter ID laws. They get real upset when folks disagree with anti gay marriage laws. They get real upset when people disagree with their stance on any number of issues.

The point isn't that GOP<Dem, it's that a blanket statement like the one you're making is really stupid. People like government more when their side is in power and they think they're doing the right things. Do some agree with everything they're doing? Maybe, but the majority don't.

Re: Nevada Rancher Hilarity

Congratulations sweep single! You now know that there are at least 2 areas where the Democratic party is the party of small government! I'm sure you won't be making incorrect blanket statements like

Quote:
There are so many people(mostly people who vote dem) that don't just like but love government. The bigger the better.
ever again!

Democrats don't reflexively support government action for government action's sake. Almost no one does. Democrats support government action when it leads and supports an outcome they advocate such as poverty reduction, reduction of sexism, racism, environmental protection. This is generally how it's always been. When Conservatives were ascendant many Democrats scaled back their rhetoric and compromised to reduce government action to keep their seats. That's the history of "even Democrats used to be against the government".

And you'll reflexively defend atrocities when it's your team. You're only sensitive to people defending the government now because they're not on your team.

That's a good response. Personally I believe both parties like big govt when it suits there agenda. Sorry for even making the post, it caused a huge derail. Back to the thread. All this goof had to do was keep his cattle on his own land.
