I gotta give props to goodie, not many posters have the chutzpah to plug their ears and ignore answers that don't fit their script AND ALSO accuse the other guy of going in circles.

I agree.

Your roommate really deserves a tax break and a letter of commendation from the Mayor for his great work enhancing your safety.

I don't even know what "some sketchy guy on the corner" even means, so I'll just assume you felt safer because you didn't have to buy your drugs from a black guy and give you a kudos for subtle racism.

Yeah not as subtle as this for sure...

Listen, if you're not bright enough to keep from getting busted with your green, I don't know what to tell you.

I am usually not the one pointing out racial stuff, but I could imagine this being a lot harder for a black inner city kid compared to a white guy in suburbia.

Not especially. Sure you're more likely to get searched/stopped, you just have to be smart about it.

I have several friends who smoke regularly who live in the hood. It's really not that hard to blend.

It's a basic process. Not to give the whole game away, but essentially these few things work great:

- When you're carrying, hide it in your crotch. Few cops search the crotch, most are too homophobic.

- Only carry weed to and from home. Carry small amounts.

- Smoke at home. Never anywhere else.

- Don't talk about smoking weed. Don't post pictures of you smoking weed on social networking sites. Don't wear "stoner clothes", keep body spray and mouthwash on hand.

- Pull your damn pants up. Tuck your ****ing shirt in. Get a haircut.

Wouldn't tucking in your shirt and pulling your pants up make you stand out in the hood? The police might think you are in the area looking to cop.

I wear boxers, im screwed

At least the scotus ruled they can't take your green card away and deport you for a first time offense of possession of pot

You'd think, but that's not how most inner city cops think.

They think "baggy pants sagging below the ass, t shirt 8 sizes too large = Criminal!" they don't take into consideration nearly everyone under 25 dresses that way.

On the subject of racial profiling, being a white dude hanging out in the hood will get you stopped.

That's just good advice in general.

"Why am I always getting hassled and disrespected?!?!?"

"Because you look like a ****ing douchenozzle."

"It's a free country, man! I can express my individuality any way I want!"

"You're a ****ing douchenozzle."

Why is it that many Americans say it is the prisoner's problem for being stupid, for doing something 'they knew was wrong', or they 'had it coming'? We incarcerate people at 6.5x the rate of our northern neighbor. The problem is quite clearly with the people who are locking people up, with the people who write the laws, and with the people who stand by watching this happen to their family members and friends.

We should be stare ourselves in the mirror every night asking what we could ever do to fix this. These are real people who are your neighbors. They have kids, parents and everything else you do. They pay their taxes and go to work just the same. Anyone who thinks we should 'stay the course' or 'until we find a better strategy' should learn to mind their own ****ing business. JMO

American exceptionalism, dude. Our threads laugh at arbitrary topical boundaries!

Let's not forget either that some of our worst ongoing oppression of other countries is firmly founded in our irrational drug war. How many people have died in S. America so that some dumb **** mouth breather could have another slice of apple pie?
07-12-2012 , 02:55 PM
If we were actually serious about the drug war and put weed smokers to death the cartels would go broke.

Once after hitching from Switzerland to the UK I turned up at Victoria Coach Station.

I was fully dreadlocked just from sleeping ad hoc for about a week and wearing flip flops that had literally worn out and had no heel. I looked like a complete bum. I got talking to this respectable looking lady, and she told me she had just come back from Africa and had a bag full of weed. She let me sneek a peak and indeed she had a rucksack full.

Anyway two police vans show up and go through the whole station searching everyone. Because of the way I looked I become a huge centre of attention. I had no drugs on me but had to endure a huge grilling just for having a credit card, which they seemed to be unable to compute could possibly be mine, even though it had the same name as my passport etc, ****ing idiots. Always tickles me that due to there pre conceptions they missed on a big bust just because I had been living ad hoc across Europe for a few days. The lady was sat next to me during the whole incident.

Really it came down to look a bit different, expect ****, so why not play the game and look normal. Go on, conform, its less hassle that way.

Hey pal, you were the one crying about dead brown people. I can save them USA #1.

America is not some mystical perfect country. All countries are designed and comprised of humans and humans historically have shown to be anything but infallible. Winston Churchill once said something along the lines of "democracy is the worst form of government, except all the others that have been tried" and in the spirit of that quote I think that while America is certainly not perfect it is the best country and government we have been able to form to date. America is a shining example of everything we can do right and should protect as a people, and at its core are fundamental rights and principles enshrined into law above all else.

So to answer the question, yes I do believe America is better than all other countries. Not because of some divine grace, not because we have the strongest military or largest economy, not because we have some perceived strength in a particular field, but rather because of the core fundamental principles and freedoms that America was conceived in and continue to (or at least try to) maintain. The United States of America was the first country to take many of the contemporary radical ideas of liberty from Enlightenment Period and base a country around them. We were the first modern Constitutional Republic and currently the oldest amoung other countries who predate our own by hundreds if not thousands of years.

In the end America is the land of opportunity and freedom and that is certainly something to be proud of. We have immigration problems because we have a country people are willing to risk their lives and break the law to enter. Our detractors may try to misrepresent certain facts and statistics on this issue or that out of spite or jealousy without proper context, but Americans generally have never cared what the talking mouths of western Europe have had to say. Any problems within America will be fixed within a manner that best suits the needs of our people, not to appease the socialist democracies of the West or the oppressive despots of the East. America has and always will stand for liberty, what is right, and the fundamental rights of mankind.

And that's how you dominate on the essay section of the GED, people.

Yet with all this Liberty, we still are not even close to being the most educated nation anymore. lulz.
