we're not living in a magic Christmas land where the welfare state is going to go away, as is the UBI is simplistic, elegant and doesnt' have perverse incentives. Its a good alternative

as for the far left liking ubi is that supposed to mean something

also and this is pure speculation when we are overtaken by the robot overlords in 30 years we might need ubi since there won't be many jobs

Unless you live in a secure compound there's always a chance your **** will be vandalized. So I guess you don't have that "right".

It's blowing my mind that BitchiBee is arguing for UBI.

Tell the Truth About 'Gun Violence' Numbers

One would get the impression listening to gun control advocates or, indeed, to President Obama and those Democrats vying to succeed him that the United States is in the midst of an epidemic of violence; awash in blood with murderers and mass killers roaming the streets carrying guns they've bought at gun shows, over the Internet or from crazed neighbors.

In fact, over the last twenty years or so the U.S. homicide rate has not just receded, but has been cut in half. The United States does indeed have a higher homicide rate than some industrialized nations in Europe and Japan, but is very, very different in size and complexity to those nations usually cited by those who wish to blame guns for the differences.
in the nineties, the NRA partnered with law enforcement officials and prosecutors in Richmond, Virginia, which was at that time listed as America's murder capital. The message was simple. Use a gun to commit a crime and you will get five years in a federal penitentiary with no possibility of a plea bargain. The murder rate dropped 32 percent the first year and another 20 percent the next, but the U.S. attorney who participated in what came to be known as “Project Exile” was criticized by Eric Holder, then Deputy Attorney General, for wasting prosecutorial resources.

Before President Obama issued his recent series of “Executive Orders” on gun violence, it was suggested that they would include instructions to U.S. prosecutors to begin charging gun criminals under existing law. that idea was dropped in favor of actions that don't target criminals, but will make it harder for non-criminals to buy firearms.

in every jurisdiction that has legalized what we call ‘concealed carry’ has seen a drop in violent crime. Burglars don't break into a house with a Rottweiler in the yard and are reluctant to use violence against a man or woman who just might be able to fight back.

Well which is it, the murder rate has been dropping all over the country for a long time or the NRA put the criminals on notice in the 90s in a few jurisdictions and they dutifully complied by not shooting people?
07-24-2016 , 10:30 PM
The reality is no one knows why the murder and other violent crime rates have been dropping with any certainty. Even with the crime rate dropping the violent murder rate in the US is still higher than other industrialized countries and could be that much lower.

Lol.

“I feel like a Republican now because they don’t stand for same-sex marriage, and that appeals to me,” he said.

Obama believes strongly in the institution of marriage — so strongly that he has at least three current wives, although press reports have put the number as high as 12.

When asked by The Post how many wives and children he has, Obama demurred.

“That’s personal,” he said.

Obama made headlines in 2011 when he married his third wife, who was still in her teens."

It's from the Post but still, lol

Following the tragedy at Pulse in Orlando, the American left renewed their calls to ban the AR-15 and similar so-called "assault weapons." Since that awful day, there have been a number of high-profile cases of mass murder. The numbers killed are staggering. However, the weapons chosen by the killers have not matched the left's prescription for ending the violence.

On July 14, a man named Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel drove a cargo truck into a crowd, killing 84 people and injuring more than 300 others. He killed and injured more people with a truck than any rampaging shooter has in American history

in Dallas, six police officers were killed when a gunman opened fire during a protest march. Additionally, he injured nine other people. Initially, many gun control advocates took to social media claiming that this latest event was proof the AR-15 and similar weapons needed to be banned.

the gunman in the attack -- didn't use an AR-15 or any other so-called "assault weapon." No, he used an SKS. For those unfamiliar with the rifle, the SKS is a weapon developed by the Soviet Union just after World War II. It has an internal 10-round magazine that is fed by stripper clips through the open bolt.

It would be exempt from pretty much any assault weapon ban that has been proposed.

Seems like a piece to advocate banning the sks

An Oklahoma sheriff faces allegations that he let his son deal meth from his police car, that he rounded up women for strip teases—and that he covered up a missing persons case.

Molly Miller was only 17 when she vanished in a high-speed police chase down a rural Oklahoma road. She was riding in a car driven by a local meth-head, James Conn Nipp, and he gunned it at 120 mph to leave cops in the dust.

Nipp was allegedly the last person to see Miller alive that summer night in 2013. Her family never heard from her again. And they say the sheriff of Love County, where Miller went missing, never fully investigated the girl’s disappearance—perhaps because he is Nipp’s own cousin.

Sheriff Marion “Joe” Russell was cuffed on corruption charges last week stemming from a flurry of bizarre allegations, including that he allowed a fugitive to stay at his home and “booty bump” methamphetamine with his son.
Bamburg told authorities Willie Russell stored meth for sale at the sheriff’s house
Sheriff Russell gave his son the keys to his Love County patrol truck—which Willie would allegedly use to sell meth, the affidavit says.
The FBI agent testified that on two occasions, the sheriff arrested bikini-clad women who were drunk or high and partying on the Red River. Instead of taking them to jail, he transported them to his home, the agent said.

Then he made them dance.

Russell would “basically arrest them for public intoxication and then… take them to his house where Willie was and either have—it has been reported to have them dance, strip,” the agent testified.

yep give up ur guns cuzz the cops take care of you

Because nobody on the modern right has seriously championed the idea in quite awhile.

Good to see that a kiwi understands that here in USA#1, 17 shooting victims with only 2 fatalities is way too thin to warrant its own thread. Thats just an early morning Monday minor disagreement to start off the week. Basically a slap fight that got out of hand.

Well also a Muslim killing gays is political violence and is scary, regular people killing multiple people is just violence and can be ignored as just part of America

Obama has stated that thoughts and prayers are "not enough". Has Cruz made a similar statement?
07-25-2016 , 02:03 PM
no, he doesn't believe you can stop gun violence through government fiat and believes in 2A.

not wanting gun control does not equal wanting to do nothing about the problem.

What DO you want to do about the problem though?
07-25-2016 , 02:49 PM
harsh laws for convicted criminals owning guns illegally, more police funding and presence in gun violence/gang hotbeds like Chicago and stop demonizing our cops as racists whenever theres a shooting of a black American this hurts the black community far more than anything, more gun education and more guns in the hands well meaning citizens

far more things then just ban guns they bad
