The interesting questions to me re: Dan have not been answered. Assuming the suggested previous account is correct,

(1) How is it known that these are the same person?

(2) Why did he do this? They don't post in similar styles afaics, so it's not simply that he wanted to post again. An elaborate alternate persona must have been created to no apparent end.

(3) Why is this some great secret with everyone playing coy, including mods?

This is mostly accurate. However I don't have that much detailed wealth of knowledge. I'll reiterate Dan's original persona has been mentioned multiple times in the past few days and the mystery around not dwelling on it is that the guy has a history of 1) searching out references to himself and 2) berating people over PM and elsewhere he can find personal information about the people he doesn't like. The end. That's the story.

My advice was sincere: focusing on it is simply stirring the pot with a guy who will react in unpredictable or annoying ways. Go back and read the last 100 posts or so to see his past identity. The archives might have the story of his original banning and past bad behavior. And further discussion is honestly not that interesting and the relative silence is mostly that most people don't want to engage with this guy for self preservation reasons.

Yeah my primary concern is that he got banned shortly after announcing he was done with responding to me, I hope he knows I didn't have anything to do with him being banned and doesn't try anything weird to retaliate against me.

I also don't have any special insight into his prior account besides overlapping both, and I wasn't the first person to figure it out, though I'm not going to credit the first person for reasons DVaut stated above.

What do people think about the idea of a politardia charity donation group? Has it been floated before? Like every quarter or so have some pet project where anyone who wants to can throw in $50 or whatever and it gets donated en masse to some small cause where it will have decent leverage.

I bring it up cause there was just a small drive like that on SE FAQ to fund an incentive trip for disadvantaged kids who achieve academic goals (it hit its goal). Was also reminiscing about the Greenstein "lol donkaments" drive for those who were around for that. Donating to MSF or Red Cross or ACLU or whatever is fine and laudable, but my experience is that donating to some small, concrete, achievable thing is more engaging and rewarding for donors.

As long as the charity is buying guns for disadvantaged Americans I am in. Also, I am not really in; get a job you gunless poors.
