I just don't think in even ten years time on a national level that the GOP can run on white supremacy with it having the same effect as it does today. Maybe in Georgia or some states, but not a national level. There's already some % of Republicans who turned away from the anti-immigrant stuff (famously Dale Jr.). I think in some part there has been a clear message that a majority now and a majority that will be even bigger will tolerate racism. Maybe the GOP will wither away because in insists on keeping the platform though.

Think a lot of it heavily depends on the midterms and 2020. If dems can win back the house and then senate/white house by 2020 maybe. If Republicans keep control of everything in 2018 we're in deep trouble. Republicans are going to go wild with rigging and smashing through more judges and voter suppression etc. It'll delay changes for a long, long time.

And remember, although demographics are changing, the percentage of VOTERS who are white is going to remain >50% for quite a bit longer.

Maybe the nature of white supremacy will change somewhat. Maybe the circle expands to include another group or two. But the idea the GOP is going to radically change sometime soon seems like a fairy tale we tell ourselves, something to convince ourselves it will all be ok.

Go read any right wing forum or website or Twitter account. Go watch Fox News. There is no evidence of this fever dissipating. It's getting worse.

There is a theory that America will never lose its white majority because the definition of white will expand to include more groups than it has today, just like it always has. Remember "Irish need not apply" and things like that?

From what I've heard kids don't even use Facebook--they look at it as an old person thing. Hopefully that means it will die off at some point.

It's like all that hysteria about video games and violent music lyrics might have been misplaced. It's the dead-eyed parents and not the kids who are the problem.

Voters being a majority white doesn't mean the majority will pull levers for the GOP. I suspect that black and Hispanic turnout increases as the worst aspects of Trumpism threatens them.

The argument isn't if the GOP will radically change, it is that they will have to or they will wither away.

You look at what the world actually is.....

I lived in the panhandle of Florida for nearly forty years. I've seen overt racism fade into racists being shamed. I've seen more blacks in suburban hoods than ever before. On and on I could go. When I went back to school, there was a healthy mix of races where there was once a clear prominent race. The world has been changing for the better for a long time.

I have no clue why this forum is full of doom and gloom.

This whole thing is about scapegoating those without the political power to defend themselves. They will adjust their garbage theories of superiority in any way if it is necessary for them to stay relevant.

They mostly dropped the 'Protestant" requirement. There isn't all that much hate for conservative Cubans as it is. To think that these people have any sense of internal consistency is laughable. They just want to hate.
