goofy: 30-50% of the posts so far (depending on taxonomy) are how this will play among Nazi adjacent and their party and propaganda organs. Spend your time posting however you'd like, I do it too, but it sure sounds despondent and turning over a lot of agency to deplorables. Obviously they're wretched, it's wretched. Why focus on it? It sounds ultimately ham fisted: turn on Fox, see if *this one* shook them, no not yet WAAF.

It's a lot of people's first reaction. I'm not making it up. It's worth thinking about why and what it means about *us*. It's unhealthy. At least focus on the antecedents and the larger factors. Turning on Fox and Breitbart mouth agape at this point is water is wet territory, it's despicable out there, not sure we should give them our collective mindspace every time.

Yeah I’ve had this debate too many times.with super smart people. My position has always been the same. Trumps rhetoric is tearing the country apart. And his rhetoric was given power by some Hegelian force on the far left that is dividing communities which is why Czechs like my grandpa were such cautious moderates. Moderation gets torn down first in a war of extremes.

What a ****ing tragedy.

The only Trump sympathetic Jew I know is Israeli-American. I don't see him much lately so I don't know if he's downplaying it or changing. I know we've been through this before, but 70% of Jews voted against Trump - one of the least Trumpy demographics in the country. The 30% are **** heads.

What are the chances that the shooter was marching with a tiki torch?

I think due to general human tendencies to remind ourselves they're pieces of **** and we're better than them

...but that's not what we're talking about. I don't believe anyone in this thread has announced plans, following these guesses, to actually watch Fox to see if this prediction is correct. I don't think anyone has expressed hope that the deplorables have gotten better, no one thinks this will change their minds. I'm sure I'll catch a WaPo story later confirming that Fox's reaction to this will be exactly what we thought it would.

So who handles Gab’s payment processors? Any chance we can make PayPal or whatever refuse to do business with them?

Trump would win Israeli elections by a landslide. He's legit popular there.

I picked a great time to move to the US and put my son in a Jewish preschool. I think I should just become a Nazi. I want to be tired of winning.

Yeah, I know we've talked about this.

It just makes me angry.

As a sociological study...fine. But it sure sounds like those old media mistakes of showing mass shooters pictures and focusing on them and their stories instead of the victims, of corrective measures, of the larger political and cultural stuff that influences this.

I'm becoming more convinced giving Tucker and Dinesh D'souza and Bill Mitchell and all the rest eyeballs and clicks and attention (even skeptical, critical ones) to yell racist **** and false flag and Soros is ultimately self-defeating and amplifying. Trump is a little harder to ignore, he wields alot of power. But spending all our time talking about deplorables and their media is flattering and empowering. They aren't going to wake up, they will launder their violent desires into America's militant racists and mentally ill then take pleasure when we watch their deplorable circuses as their clowns circle the wagons and say a bunch of fascist **** and we sit around and marvel at their stupidity and audacity. It's a bad feedback loop.

and this times a million

all those ****ing hacks (MOST of them Jewish and themselves victims of anti-Semitic attacks) at CNN who selectively harp and consciously ignore the anti-Semitism that is pervasive among Republicans make me so god damn angry

I grew up in this neighborhood. It is literally Mr. Rogers' neighborhood--he lived a few blocks away from this synagogue.

My prediction is that this latest wave of right-wing terror attacks will result in Republicans and Democrats "coming together" and passing a sweeping wave of security bills, call it Patriot Act 2.0. They will say they are targeting acts of terror but really it will be about unleashing the full power of the military and law enforcement on any protestors who threaten the status quo. Yes this means striking workers, counterprotestors to the fascists, and people occupying ICE and organizing for power within the working class.
10-27-2018 , 01:50 PM
Also this:
10-27-2018 , 01:51 PM
I guess the 3 cops that got shot should've been armed.
10-27-2018 , 01:52 PM
einbert: hard to predict but it's true that the cops and military are the primary and ultimate right wing paramilitary group. One of the pernicious things about arming everyone and mass shootings and insisting on security forces to thwart the violence is that it's the ultimate right wing semi bluff. They win both ways. Remember the right has been arguing for precisely that for generations, when they talk about their guns and the chaos and violent criminals and plead to unleash the cops, they are not so subtly saying the cops should get out there cracking skulls or they will shoot up the people they consider the undesirables themselves. Settling on more cops and security as a compromise is no compromise at all.
