Appreciate the offer, but I do not have the passion for US politics to really appreciate it (as the regs do) or participate in a productive manner, and to be blunt - I do not have the time to do it even if I did have that interest. I would read and rarely post in the forum in between reading other forums a few days a week (mainly the marketplace and Internet Poker as unlike the Politics regs I am still involved in the industry for which this site is based). I did get some decent politics updates from the forum, even if at times it took a bit of effort wading through all the yelling back at the inanimate Trump bot or posting random twitter comments of others.

I did find the human interactions and behavior of many of the members to be interesting at times, but I think many could use a break from the daily politics grind as well, but in the end that is up to them, and for now if they all have a happy home that their collectively rule - then that is great.

I would genuinely suggest that those who lead it (if there are any leaders) recognize that if it grows fast that it will literally consume all of their time, at zero pay, and that is not a condition that can last for long before burnout happens, so again when the raw energy of the move wears off - a proper business plan should be created, and then they can charge forward without the limitations (and some of the benefits) of the establishment they had here. Good luck and have fun!

I have some guesses on why the politics forum is going away. I won't say publicly, but I think it's pretty sad that this is the state we're in today.

I think we should remove the religion forum next, and then...

I would like to sincerely thank all the politics mods & posters for everything you have done to try to both inform, and combat, the sociopaths enabling Trump.

That there are people still supporting this administration is beyond baffling to me, forget the infinity of evil , THEY ARE LOCKING CHILDREN IN CAGES.

Peace, and best of luck

Yeah already made an account. Like the other guy, I was lurking daily, not just occasionally. Basically my first click in the morning was guardian.co.uk to see if the world ended overnight and then come here to see how the US is doing.

I'd also like to thank everyone here for making this the best place to read US politics discussions between real, intelligent people (and the occasional crazy / Russian / deplorable).

Enjoyed lurking daily. Will continue the lurk wherever it takes me.

Thanks Obama!

I didn't see anything that merited such a drastic step so whether there was bull**** going on elsewhere or mods got overzealous this is sad.

ii) Part of the reason the forums was so good (OK, relatively good, let us not go crazy!) was the mods. So thanks to all of them who are I believe volunteers who had to deal with a bunch of bollocks and did an excellent job. In particular jman220 who was scrupulously fair and pleasure to deal with. Interacted less with the other mods but thanks to them too.
I was new to posting in the political thread but I thought it was relatively civil too.

It's been beaten senseless but one last time: If you want to know what an actual uncivil politics subforum looks like go visit chiefsplanet.

They have a thread called Pete Buttplug.

So you are saying it would be exactly like being a twoplustwo mod but without the downside of irrational direction. Pretty sure zip recruiter could whip up thousands of candidates as capable as the administration guiding things here.

Also if people burn out they burn out. You mistakenly think there is any scenario you can devise that is half as bad, let alone worse than where things were here.

Trumpbot should post itt exclusively

Then it was their mistake that they did not leave years ago, since all they would give up is "irrational direction" (they have know what the management is like here in terms of beliefs for a long time). I suppose one could say that they would also give up a free, established community created by those same evil overlords that also had no overhead or need to create/manage a site on their own, but why worry about those details, as escaping irrational direction is all that matters in the end. For what it is worth, I always thought it was curious that modding here earned $0, but given they had no problem finding mods - hard to argue whether that was the correct market rate for that service.

OK, then again it was their mistake that they did not leave years ago, and they should be very happy that they were kicked out of the nest along with a very friendly link to their new site. Mistakes by everyone on all sides for not having this happen much sooner if everything you say is accurate. I do agree that the forum as it was was a very awkward fit for this website, but others maintain a couple of rando posters with rando posts are the reason all of this actually happened, so perhaps those posters should be thanked for the outcome, if all of your beliefs are accurate.

I think most CP posts would not just be tolerated by the reds but preferable.

Get ready for a black on white crime thread and an illegal (or legal) immigrant crime thread. Also random threads about black people who look like they could be Somali committing crimes.

Ya don't worry Suzzer I won't be making it over to the new forum. I do think it sucks that ATF trolling got this place closed down, but on the plus side poker is pretty much dead and you have a chance to build a new place where it can be run how you would like to run it. Best of luck.

As I said in the other thread that's probably never coming back - I'm not that interested in preaching to the choir or being in the choir. I don't watch MSNBC or listen to chapo. I was in here when AC-ists were "dunking" on me all day for suggesting stuff like zoning laws might be a net benefit and monopolies might not be.

I'll still hang out on the other site for random stuff and the social aspect.

But it might be cool if this site ends up with a mix of conservatives and liberals, w/o the dominating wolfpack mentality - which I think is just as much as result of conservatives leaving as a cause. Unless they try to shut me down for kicking their asses in debate, I'll still stick around for that.

I never wanted to shout right-wingers down or run them off. I just wanted to point out the ludicrousness of their talking points - mainly because my big motivation has always been the lurkers, some of whom might be new. We all know no one who's dug in is going to change their mind.

But the lurkers, if you catch them early enough, can see which side has reasoned arguments, and which has hysterical talking points that don't make sense unless you're emotionally triggered by their message. At least that's what I told myself was a purpose for spending hours a day on here.

I do think some other posters would rather right-wingers just leave - and acted as such. They also didn't like mostly liberals like me, ChrisV and others not toe-ing the lefty line on every issue. They should be super happy over there. Getting fragged from the left was exhausting and tended to tilt me for days.

Are you not crossing over, suzz? Is this goodbye? We'll always have chiefplanet.

I'm over there. I've got room in my heart for two sites.

I am really trying to avoid the Chiefsplanet DC forum though. The blatant racism, conspiracy theories, and open rooting for violence against immigrants is just too depressing. If I go in there it's to hit and run. I think of it like Fukishima where I've got 5 minutes before radiation poisoning sets in.

Ya the good ole Ac days. That is what I will remember this forum for indeed. It sounded so good on paper and then I was reminded by someone what an externality was. Honestly for the last many years this particular forum has been all about dunking and mostly the middle left on anyone with a contrary viewpoint. Also a lot of problems with people talking over one another and not really any dialog or mutual debate. Ymmv.

I've been completely out of touch and I'm not sure what you guys did, but that site looks pretty solid I'll be over there

I created an account over there.
