So Le Pen prob has a ceiling of 35% for round 2 and that's that? French polls too good I guess.

not enough lol for france that out of 65M people, this is the 2 they chose

Mélenchon refuses to concede. He says he wants to wait for official results to come in. Someone seems to be salty.

It probably won't surprise you to learn that people say that in pretty much every country during pretty much every election.

Pretty happy about that result. We had a choice between becoming more like Venezuela, Germany, Thatcherian UK or Russia and I think we picked the correct option.

lol Mélenchon and his fans. I thought some berniebros were counterproductive self-righteous idiots, but they were really mild in comparison.

Congratulations on electing Tony Blair. That worked out so well for us...

Macron's quite a bit worse than I'd like, but also quite a bit better than I expected when Fillon won the primary. In this imperfect world you have to take what you can get.

Hope we're not too complacent about the second round, and the half an hour or so of BFM I just watched suggests the debate in the next few weeks will be insufferable, but at least we'll have Republicains hating on Fillon to make it slightly bearable.

One thing worth saying, though, Le Pen seems to have improved her score by 4%. Obviously having that many fascists knocking about isn't great, but it's hardly a landslide of new extreme right voters yet. Still have to fade her in the second round, though.

I think Schröder is a better comparison considering the situation Germany was in, but whatever. I would probably even have voted for war criminal Tony Blair against the 3 other choices.

I lived through Blair and can't stand the man, but I'd have manned the barricades for him against Le Pen or Fillon. Macron is similar in some ways, but one way he isn't is that he isn't taking all the French left with him. Mélenchon exists and the people who voted him and Hamon aren't going away or going to become Macron fans.
