tl;dw version:

10 minutes of police officers refusing to give people complaint forms when asked for them.

My question is, what is the procedure for this? If you have a problem with a police officer and want to report it, how would one normally go about it?

My dept, you go in, tell the desk clerk you have a complaint, you're asked to sit down, then you meet with someone from Professional Standards. I've been complained on several times.

The investigations process here is rather annoying, but I understand the necessity of it. I've been called in for this crap. Say you're pissed at me because I used offensive language in front of your kid:

Professional Standards: DBJ, did you work the date of 3/16?
ME: I guess..
PS: You guess?
ME: I mean hell, I wouldn't be in here if someone didn't call in to bitch about something I did on 3/16, right?
PS: Sign this paper.
ME: I'm not signing that, it says stuff about rights. Do I need an attorney?
PS: SIGN THE DAMN PAPER DBJ SO WE CAN GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY!
ME: Fine...
PS: Did you answer a call at the park about some kids behaving unruly at the park on 3/16?
ME: Yea.
PS: Did you deal with those kids in a respectful manner?
ME: They were teenagers. No I didn't. I told them to "Get the **** off my car!"
PS: Why?
ME: Uhhh.. They were on my car?
PS: Did you use force on them?
ME: No.
PS: Did they get off the car?
ME: Yes.
PS: Was anyone arrested?
ME: No.
PS: Have a nice day.

ETA: That's not hyperbole. Entirely true story.

lol, that's cute. DblBarrelJ wants to talk to a lawyer. You guys are a swell group.
02-29-2012 , 05:09 PM
I am being interrogated about possible criminal acts, why shouldn't I want a lawyer?
02-29-2012 , 05:11 PM
I feel like you should be told that if you talk to them they will talk to the states attorney and help you out. Then proceed to grill you for 14-20 hours. All of this after arresting you in your home on some trumped up charges.

You're gonna make a hell of a defense attorney Case.

Stay classy.

On a serious note, do you really think Miranda shouldn't apply to Law Enforcement?

Why?
02-29-2012 , 05:27 PM
You don't know that. Bold accusations being thrown around itt.

Why are cops so afraid of the question why? Do they teach cops to ask for ID as a means to intimidate or is it just a learned behavior?
02-29-2012 , 05:29 PM
Case Closed, wtf are you talking about?

No. All laws should apply to, and be enforced against, them in the same way the laws are enforced against people who live on the west side of Chicago.

Cops don't like when you ask why. The video a couple posts up show examples of this. Personal experience confirms.

Cops also seem to like for IDs as means to make a normal situation more serious. Seems like an intimidation technique to me. Video seems to confirm that too.

CC and DBJ don't you guys have ambulances to chase and donuts to buy?

Clearly we have to rehash and old argument in which DBJ incredulously claims something about cops that is not quite true. Then I lazily dismiss his claims because none of us were born yesterday. He either gets it or he doesn't, at this point there is not much left to be said I guess.

The ID's are asked because I have to know who I'm talking to.

As long as you agree all laws should be applied equally and since I was being interrogated about criminal activity Miranda should apply, we're in agreement.

I don't know what you're so angry about.

I used the lol to try and be sarcastically dismissive.

Well anger is unhealthy for your mental health.

You can't take yourself so seriously.

Do you have any idea how many defense attorneys have lost their minds in court and then we play golf two days later? Court is theatre. It's not real. You take this business seriously, you'll die.

huh? Of course it's theater. It's just that cops get play roles that no man deserves to play.

What if all I wanna do is make snide comments towards you itt?
02-29-2012 , 06:34 PM
Well you do that regularly. Hasn't helped with the anger. I assumed you felt the need to do more.

No, you really don't.

So you just randomly speak to people?

If someone's talking to you, you don't say, "who are you?"

Think of it as me saying "who are you?"

There ya go.

Yeah, because they are absolutely identical. lol @ trying to play this type of **** off as an innocent request.

If a random person is talking to me, I generally don't ask who they are because I don't care. However, if I asked their name (or they asked me mine) I would expect a first name answer, like "bill" or "steve" or "will". I wouldn't expect their first name, last name, dob, address, and drivers license number (or state ID #).

ETA: If you are making consensual contact with someone you have absolutely no right to someone's personal information, that includes their name. You can ask of course, but don't be upset when I tell you no.
