Re: Law and Order 2

The two other cops involved were given 5 year prison sentences. The reason these cops were only given probation and community service is because they were the first to confess and had *only* stolen marijuana.

The judge's comments were idiotic, though.

Did you watch the video? He had been walking around naked with a gun for a couple of minutes. He put the gun down and was walking towards the police, then suddenly turns around and started sprinting back towards the gun. How were the police supposed to react?

I assumed the video was going to show a naked guy surrendering to the police and getting shot for no reason. This guy is lucky he's not dead.

I watched it all. I saw a naked man running away from a police dog. I did not see an imminent threat of grave bodily harm to anybody. When he had the gun in hand I thought he was at great risk. Shooting a naked man running (who is about to go down to the dog) is wrong.

Re: Law and Order 2

I don't know why they didn't try to remove the gun. The guy was naked, if the gun is out of the way he's not a threat to anyone. I heard the guy coordinating it say that whoever did that would be in the cross fire and that's probably why they didn't do it, but it seems like removing the one thing that was the danger would have solved just about everything.

He was running towards the gun. They even yelled at him to stop and let him get pretty far before they shot him in the shoulder.

Should they have waited for him to reach the gun and start firing back at them before they shot him?

Re: Law and Order 2

Maybe wait til he tries to pick up the gun to verify his intent? This is why people call cops cowards. They have dozens of guns trained on this guy, there is zero chance naked suicidal dude could have picked up that weapon and aimed it before being destroyed by 50 bullets.

Yeah, it looked like all the cops were on one side of the square he was pacing around in. The guy in the helicopter kept suggesting that someone go to grab the gun after he put it down. The guy did look like he was surrendering and walked quite a distance from the gun before he turned around and ran back in its direction. It's possible that they were in the process of retrieving the gun when the guy suddenly decided to sprint away.

Re: Law and Order 2

Police should not have the legal authority to molest people looking for drugs. Cops in Texas can literally, simply by asserting they smell marijuana, search your car, and then drag you out and pull down your pants and underwear, and stick their fingers inside you, and find nothing and have absolutely no legal repercussions. This is ****ing sick.

Quote:
And in Houston, Texas, prosecutors have dropped criminal charges against a pair of Harris County Sheriff’s deputies who are accused of conducting a roadside strip-search of 21-year-old Charnesia Corley, in an incident her lawyer calls "rape by cop." Video of the June 2015 traffic stop released Monday shows a pair of deputies shoving Corley face down onto the pavement after pulling her over for allegedly running a stop sign. Corley says the officers removed her pants, threatened to break her legs, and penetrated her vagina without her consent as they searched for marijuana. Corley’s lawyer is calling for the appointment of a special prosecutor to reinvestigate the case.

I wonder what the statistics are on black people molested by police compared to white people molested by police.

Probably not the best method to calm someone down.

The footage shows a white female driver pulled over during a DUI traffic stop telling Abbott that she was scared to move her hands in order to get her cellphone because “I’ve just seen way too many videos of cops ... ”

At that point, she is cut off by Abbott.

“But you’re not black. Remember, we only shoot black people,” the police veteran of nearly three decades can be heard saying. “Yeah. We only kill black people, right? All the videos you’ve seen, have you seen the black people get killed?”

Cop assaults and falsely arrests innocent nurse just doing her job. (Video included.) WTF is wrong with these people?

Quote:
Nurse Alex Wubbels politely stood her ground. She got her supervisor on the phone so Payne could hear the decision loud and clear. “Sir,” said the supervisor, “you’re making a huge mistake because you’re threatening a nurse.”

Payne snapped. He seized hold of the nurse, shoved her out of the building and cuffed her hands behind her back. A bewildered Wubbels screamed “help me” and “you’re assaulting me” as the detective forced her into an unmarked car and accused her of interfering with an investigation.

Detective Jeff Payne needs to be infamous. ****er. Well, I guess he is. I hope this follows him for rest of his life.

(In the scheme of things it's a pretty minor incident (although googling suggests he may have been eager to cover for police involvement in a fatal car chase), but **** Jeff Payne anyway.)

Violently arresting someone for refusing to comply with an order that any competent officer would already know is illegal is anything but minor.

They don't need a warrant. Story is inaccurate. Utah law has implied consent and the US supreme court decision on the subject cited in the stories relates to cases where refusal leads to criminal charges, not civil as in utah.

still assaulting the nurse while arresting her .... which was also unnecessary ... is uncalled for.

The math seems correct, although you limit the conclusion to the United States when your assumptions are not explicity so limited.

Re: Law and Order 2

havent seen this one mentioned here but its been all over the news in northeast ohio.

euclid cop is captured on video pummeling a suspect immediately after he gets out of his car. then they handcuff and detain the women who was a passenger in his car.

anyway, unsurprisingly, the cop has a history of abuse including pistol whipping someone at a traffic stop.

Quote:
-in 2014 he was forced to resign by the Mentor PD for conducing a traffic stop without probable cause and lying about it.

-Amiott was involved in two crashes in 2015 and 2017.

-In May 2015, he lost a suspect's cellphone while gathering evidence in a criminal case.

-And in 2016, he hit a suspect with his gun out of fear for his safety. A letter written that August by Lt. Timothy Verh said that when asked about the incident, Amiott lost his temper and said, "Just read me Garrity. I heard how you are from other guys and wouldn't have believed it, now I do."

Implied consent only applies if the patient was under arrest, Matlock.
