How would you like to live in Detroit or Chicago without any cops at all, because nobody is going to be an unarmed policeman in those two cities.

The problem is you'll never have an unarmed police force without a prerequisite gun control regime in place. Cops and people just wouldn't do it. That's one reason why an unarmed police force is so normal for the Euros but in dreamland territory for Americans.

Unarmed cops in an armed society would be stupid and counterproductive.

Perhaps in other European countries but Spanish cops carry handguns. I've even seen some in body armor and holding a shotgun for some unknown reason.

Carabinieri in Italy often carry submachine guns.

Over the weekend, the Anne Arundel County, MD sheriff was arrested and charged with assault after a "domestic incident" with his wife. According to the charging document, the wife told police that he pushed, slapped and held her down on the bed, and then threw her into a wall. The son, who was home at the time, also told police he witnessed at least some of the physical confrontation.

Today, the wife releases this statement:

I didn't think that unarmed police officers were actually that common in Europe and couldn't think of any countries besides the UK. Google found this WaPo article that that mentions Britain, Ireland, Norway, Iceland and New Zealand.

Was in Paris recently (but prior to attacks) and at least around the touristy areas there were frequently guys walking around with automatic weapons etc.

Yeah, I was in France a few years ago and there were dudes with FAMAS's and **** at every train station. Not sure if they were regular police or some kind of homeland security type force but they were common.

TN state legislator trying to get law changed so people with DUIs don't get their Concealed Carry permits taken away. In a total coincidence, that legislator got a DUI last year while carrying a concealed weapon.

If there's one group of people I want trusted with firearms, it's people who've shown they act irresponsibly after a few drinks.

It's slightly better than that. He wants to make sure FORMER LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS can keep their carry permits after a DUI. He's a retired cop obv.

Lol wow...

Do they take the permit for any DUI or just those where you have the gun on you at the time?

Cop gets convicted. Prosecutor recommends no jail time but 6 mo house arrest + community service. Judge reduces the verdict and gives a sentence with community service only.

White People Facebook is maaaaaad about the Tamir Rice settlement.

I bet these people don't even realize they're racist.

To be fair, the people saying the city shouldn't be paying her $6M have a point. It should come out of the police pension fund instead.
04-25-2016 , 04:37 PM
I imagine the city has some sort of insurance that will cover most of it.

Man this isn't even in 'misguided but understandable defense of bad cops' territory. This is just cruelty.

Quote:
The Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association*released a statement*responding to the settlement. Rather than acknowledging any error on the police’s part, the association suggested that the Rice family use the funds to “educate the youth of Cleveland in the dangers associated with the mishandling of both real and facsimile firearms.”

Cops suggesting we teach firearm safety to kids is what you consider cruel?

Get the **** off my earth.

No amount of "firearm safety" is going to save you from cops so scared of black people they shot a ****ing child with a toy within less than 30 seconds of being on the scene.

Yikes. Because if a cop shot your kid to death and then told you to teach your other kid to play with toy guns properly you'd take that as welcome advice.
