Child struck by bullet. Thankfully a police officer was close by to deal with an issue with the dog. In a related story, the officer's gun had been fired in recent past. More updates as they become available.

Update: the dog is still alive.

Which doesn't really add up, because you'd think he would have fired another shot at the dog if the first one missed. Did the dog suddenly stop being a threat after the first shot?

Noise could have easily scared the dog away.

Thats the current training after they got all that bad pub for killing so many dogs. Now when a menacing dog is coming at you, its not necessary to actually shoot to kill the dog. Just discharge your firearm harmlessly into a wall, ceiling, or 4 year old, and the noise is usually good enough to resolve the situation.

lol

I'm gonna guess that after the cop realized he shot a 4 year old, he was too focused on that to notice the family dog that was violently whipping his tail side to side in a menacing manner.

Smith said investigators would explore all possibilities, including whether the man needed some type of help from police. He said investigators would also look into the man's background to see if there were any indications the shooting was an attempted "suicide by cop."

The man's name has not been released.

"We cover everything. Our investigators leave no stone unturned," Smith said. "We don't have any idea about this guy's background. We just don't know yet."
LOL I love how the investigation is clearly aimed at finding some way to blame the shooting on the victim.

NYPD fearing for their lives while arresting unarmed autistic teens

Quote:
The complaint filed in federal court this week seeks monetary damages against three unnamed officers following the Nov. 12, 2014, incident. The suit claims uniformed police threw 17-year-old Troy Canales to the ground, beat him, and took him into custody without just cause. No charges were filed against him.

A copy of the lawsuit obtained by The Huffington Post says Canales, who is now 18, was leaning on a car when three NYPD officers approached him "in a menacing manner and demanded to know what he was doing."

Canales responded that he was just "chilling," but two officers took hold of his arms and "forcefully threw him down onto the sidewalk, smashing his head against the concrete," the suit claims. One officer allegedly punched him in the face. When the boy screamed for his mother, she came running out of the house and explained to the cops that her son has autism. Police ignored her and took the boy into custody.

...

According to the lawsuit, the officers took Canales to the precinct, where he was held without reason for an hour before the commanding officer agreed to release him to his mother. One of the officers involved told Valentine that he had "feared for his life" when he spoke to her son on the sidewalk.

26 cops beating 1 black guy = good policing

If he stops resisting they stop beating.

Not the officers fault it's impossible to stop resisting in that situation

In profanity-laden terms, Rossi is seen on video telling the teen what's going to happen if he doesn't shut up.
"I'll break your f***ing neck," he says in the recording, which News 8 obtained through an open records request. "You understand me? You understand me?"

....

In his statement to internal investigators, Rossi said he was using "verbal judo" to try to get information from the teen. He said that telling him he would break his neck was a "verbal technique that I've used to try to calm down people or suspects in my career with no intention of ever meaning the words I say."

I posted that in the Baltimore thread this morning and was surprised how much people here were like "meh, if you can't keep your hands up you deserve to get shot". That surprised me.

If that were true John McCain would have been shot a long time ago.

Well, they are most likely lying when they say they would arrest a family member.

Twenty-eight-year-old Sandra Bland was arrested Friday after a traffic stop for failing to use her turn signal while changing lanes. Three days later, on Monday, she was found dead in her jail cell in Waller County, northwest of Houston. Jail officials said her death was a suicide, a claim disputed by her family.
Quote:
Bland was involved in the Black Lives Matter movement and had posted a series of videos online speaking out against police brutality and racial injustice.
Quote:
On Thursday, video footage surfaced of her arrest, which appears to show police pushing Sandra Bland to the pavement and restraining her as she asks why she is being treated so roughly and why they slammed her head on the ground.
Quote:
...on Monday, the lawyer for the Bland family described newly obtained dash cam footage of the arrest, which shows that the police escalated a routine traffic stop by ordering Bland to extinguish her cigarette.

She says, 'Why do I have to put out a cigarette when I'm in my own car?’ And that seemed to irritate him to the point where he said, 'Get out of the car.'
The officer who arrested Sandra Bland has been put on desk duty for violating traffic procedures during the stop.
Bolded was a clever solution by the cop. What can she say now other than, touche.
