That is the probability of him hurting someone after he is contained in his room is approximately 0 so there is no reason not to wait him out.
This is what I'm saying. You got a very elderly man barricaded in a room by himself and not an immediate threat to anyone. What good result can possibly come from trying to extract him with a SWAT team and tear gas and a hail of bullets? Absolutely no way this situation can end well. You're going to kill the guy and he may kill some of you in the process. What is the immediate pressing need to storm the place like he's got Osama in there with him?

This is just further advancement of the whole militarization of the police force.

SWAT teams used to be for like storming a bank where a bunch of robgers are holding hostages and stuff, not for apprehending one confused 107 year old man.

44 year old woman sitting cuffed in the back of a police car.

Naturally a few minutes later they are slamming her head into the road, breaking bones in her face cuz she was getting all lippy of them.

(Somewhat nasty image of what the cops did to her)
Spoiler:

Dangerous situation, good thing the cops were there, otherwise somebody might have gotten hurt!!

I give the police credit. They actually charged the officer

Another good example of cops (well in this case park rangers) not leaving well enough alone.

http://www.spokesman.com/stories/201...-man-near-son/

Yeah, respond to a noise complaint, end up a shooting a guy standing next to his son, makes sense.

Basically the wanna be cop park rangers showed up and the guy refused to turn his music down, he was belligerent and intoxicated.

This is exactly type of situation that you need to immediatly escalate the **** out of. I mean, the guy is playing his music too loud and isn't respecting your park ranger authority, that last thing you wanna do it just walk away, clearly someone has to get shot here.

Only YOU can prevent unnecessary shootings.

Umm, dude, he was shooting a gun out at people. What's the range of a handgun bullet? Everyone within pi*r^2 was at risk.

Allowed to walk around the city naked because you aren't hurting anybody.
Can't play chess in the park because you are a nuisance.

San Francisco logic.

Just out of curiosity, what course of action are you advocating for the officers re:the noise complaint? Aw shucks, he won't turn it down, guess we should just walk away?

How about you write him a bunch of fines instead of shooting him in the stomach. Crazy!
09-19-2013 , 07:17 PM
Writing him fines doesn't solve the problem, the music is still too loud.

When the fines reach 1k+ I am sure it will start to solve the problem. We are talking about loud music, its moreso a irritant then a problem....but you're right, shooting the man is a way better option.

Well, you do have one thing in common with the trigger happy cops. You think that it is a binary decision.

Those aren't the only two options, broseph. Cotton's post seemed results oriented in that guy gets shot ergo cops shoulda walked away from noise complaint.
09-22-2013 , 03:19 PM
I wasnt saying that it was the only decision, I was saying it was obv a better decision then to shoot the man.

You don't know he didn't do that first.
09-22-2013 , 07:42 PM
So what if he did? Are you implying its reasonable at any time to shoot a man, or escalate to the point that its necessary, over a noise complaint?

He cares if he ignored the Rangers demands all night, it is never reasonable in this situation to escalate to the point that someone is getting shot.

You're also assuming the park ranger escalated.

The guy was drunk, and already being a prick to other people before the ranger showed up.

Altercation starts at the 3:00 mark when the armed gang jumps the 20 year old. A fifth cop jumps in and starts beating him too at around 3:50. And then a sixth and final cop attempts to murder the man at around the 4:10 mark when he unleashes his dog at him. He suffered severe damage to his neck and required 200 stitches. The man who was beaten by the cops was charged with assault. The police chief viewed the video and declared that he didn't see anything wrong with what happened.

Jesus ****ing christ.
