Trump will send in the privatized air traffic controllers if the government doesn't fix the horrible carnage going on at the nation's airports.

In that show Decker, they're clearly taking shots at The West Wing because the President is practically a Martin Sheen impersonator and Decker is always ****ting all over him. It's absolutely incredible.

The President on Decker is Martin Sheen's brother.

Scott Darden the American aid worker who was kidnapped and held for months in Yemen.

NYT reporting that he was also funneling arms to US "advisors". As mentioned in the article this is the kind of thing like the CIA using a vaccination program to try to find Osama Bin Laden which makes it more dangerous for aid workers, makes the US completely untrustworthy and makes the world a more dangerous place. It would be nice to put **** like this in the Trump thread, but this is before Trump.

Bush-era GG was actually adding some value, at the time he was doing a pretty good job of raising the alarm that there are downsides to establishing a surveillance state with unaccountable intelligence agencies, while much of the rest of the world was banging war drums and fear mongering post 911. When he applied the same approach to Obama's administration he lost a lot of support from the left who thought that he did a swell job of criticizing Bush, but didn't appreciate him taking shots at Obama. I think the "Russian mole" accusations are pretty lol. A more fair criticism would be "when all you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail". His anti-Bush stance was reasonable re: the Patriot Act, etc., but now he's fighting 2001's war in 2017.

Liberals and progressives should take a big lesson from recent history and not give anyone in government a free ride just because of their party affiliation. And it's not just being mean. For example, Obama wanted to close gitmo and maybe he could have with enough public pressure. And maybe he could have dialed back the surveillance state that is now in the hands of the Trump administration. (sort of)

Obama tried to close Gitmo, but was blocked by congress. Not sure if public pressure would have helped much.

As I've said for years, micro for prez.

* Except you have to clean up your stance on drone warfare.

Forcing elected officials to act would be the purpose of public pressure.

I don't think I supported any specific drone strikes, just suggested that if military action is taken they aren't substantially different and may allow for less escalation.

But, perhaps I should rethink that based on them becoming a tool that is too easy to use. Like it could be pretty awful if we could wish people we think are enemies into the corn field.

Yeah, the McCarthyism claim is bizarre. On the level of something a dumb poster here would say. Does he actually think Meuller/congress investigating Kushner, Flynn, Trump and Russia is like the house Un-American Activities Committee? Or is he just mad about twitter trolls calling him a russian shill based on nothing? The latter is just standard for pretty much any topic in 2017.

If anyone's bummed about the score of the NBA Finals, just keep in mind when watching game 4 that there are way more Trump voters in the audience and in the greater Cleveland area than there are back in the Bay Area.

I hear this complaint about Gitmo a lot from liberals IRL so I'll address it. Obama was able to reduce the number of prisoners in Gitmo from over 200 to about or a little less than 40. He tried really hard to shut it down completely, but it was a total no-go in Congress. Nobody wanted to take those last few dozen guys and he couldn't get Congressional clearance to release them either. He did work really hard to make sure people weren't getting funneled there any more and they were getting close to having a skeleton crew type situation. I'm sure all that has been reversed by Trump though as he's been very fond of Gitmo in interviews and debates.

If you really want liberal policies we're gonna have to elect a liberal President and a liberal Congress. Just one or the other isn't gonna get it done. That's just the way our system works. It's set up to favor conservative policies/ideas just by its very nature.

And Obama was a centrist, but that's a whole nother conversation.
