And the ****ing media takes him at his word and runs headlines like: "Trump cancels Eagles White House visit over anthem protests."

He had his moment. It has long passed. I liked that he could rattle off stuff like the entire lineup of Grand Funk Railroad on a dime. I met someone who was The Dennis Miller Show's research assistant. Basically he read every newspaper and periodical looking for tidbits for the show. One of those jobs that I had no idea was an actual job.

I just got my shipping date back to the US. Looks like I'll be back in LA around July 10ish if all goes well.

They're still working the bugs out of the funny news seeking algorithm.

I mean it’s pretty amazing that Pruitt has survived this long, he has to have some big money backers keeping him in there, I just don’t see what good he does with all these scandals constantly coming forward. Although it does help that his scandals probably stay in the news cycle for a few hours before Trump does/says something stupid

this seems like a huge step down for someone who is as well-known nationally as Ellison

Yeah, kinda, but it's also a decent holding pattern spot while he waits for senate/governor or something - not a lot of places you can jump to straight from the House.

18 months ago, Kamala Harris was just an attorney general, now people are talking about her running in 2020.

It's because Trump's doing the same thing. As long as Pruitt is getting away with it, so will he. Also the pruitt scandals don't hurt trump whatsoever, nobody who voted for him cares about those things. suck it libtards.

Yeah cool. Haven't booked flights yet so I'll get into LA a couple days early and see if we can work something out.

I have a hard time focusing enough to get through a book these days. Today I did manage a book review though. The review of What Is Real?: The Unfinished Quest for the Meaning of Quantum Physics, by Adam Becker, starts with this:

Quote:
People are gullible. Humans can be duped by liars and conned by frauds; manipulated by rhetoric and beguiled by self-regard; browbeaten, cajoled, seduced, intimidated, flattered, wheedled, inveigled, and ensnared. In this respect, humans are unique in the animal kingdom.

Aristotle emphasizes another characteristic. Humans alone, he tells us, have logos: reason. Man, according to the Stoics, is zoön logikon, the reasoning animal. But on reflection, the first set of characteristics arises from the second. It is only because we reason and think and use language that we can be hoodwinked.

Not only can people be led astray, most people are. If the devout Christian is right, then committed Hindus and Jews and Buddhists and atheists are wrong. When so many groups disagree, the majority must be mistaken. And if the majority is misguided on just this one topic, then almost everyone must be mistaken on some issues of great importance. This is a hard lesson to learn, because it is paradoxical to accept one’s own folly. You cannot at the same time believe something and recognize that you are a mug to believe it. If you sincerely judge that it is raining outside, you cannot at the same time be convinced that you are mistaken in your belief. A sucker may be born every minute, but somehow that sucker is never oneself.
We're so stupid because we're so smart!

Meanwhile in Ohio, we all decided to let a charter school rob the state blind to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Report details how much money school districts lost to ECOT

Quote:
“What I could have done over the last eight years with that money,” said George Wood, the superintendent of Federal Hocking Local Schools in Athens County. “It’s a teacher and an aide. It’s three times what we spend on textbooks. It’s a new bus every year and it all went to a school district that didn’t even exist called ECOT.”

I've seen too many dog Youtubez to believe humans are the only species that can be fooled.

The ECOT logo has the O looking like both an apple and a computer power button. How could you not automatically give them half a billion dollars?

We cannot escape ourselves. And sometimes the cat door... is closed.

I always wondered what the right's endgame with charter schools was, I should have known it was as simple as money.

Two Pruitt aides disappeared under the bus today. He's trying to save himself.
