Lololol wait, zikzak is an old? I thought he pulled out the curmudgeonly-old-man attack just to keep people on their toes.

I'm saying I'm probably closer to zikzak's age than an incoming freshman.

Ah, saw your edit. Yes, I am young.

Talked to a professor friend with an MIT PhD, who is friends with a rocket scientist who he says "is really, really smart". According to his rocket scientist buddy, the launch and landing of the Falcon Heavy was the most impressive thing he's seen in rocketry and brought tears to his eyes.

I know Elon is not currently using his rockets to destroy Trump or other super obvious good things (though affordable communications satellite for poor countries seems good), but I assume he should get the benefit of the doubt, even over, say, witty twitter accounts. Maybe even over the UAW.

Ah OK, I thought he recently turned 40. Still, I'm closer to him than a bright-eyed teen.

As to the topic,

In CA the Jr colleges have transfer programs to the UCs. It's the easiest and least expensive way to get in and they claim to cover the same material so you aren't behind after you xfer.

The only important thing about my age is that I'm closer to my death than my birth.

Such a noob. Should have linked something with some cred among the kids.

I'm as old as many of you (45), but on Thursday I went to a 300 seat rock concert with a solid up and coming band where no member is over 23 (Sunflower Bean, a trio). There was even a (small) pit, though it was 60-70% girls and they appeared, almost to a person, to be honor students from the local university). [Interesting contrast from my 14-15 y/o youthful experience with large, aggressive slam pits at pretty hard metal and punk shows, like Slayer, Megadeth, Corrosion of Conformity. There's a world of difference between the drives of 15-16 y/o males and 22 y/o women.] The millennials at this show were exceedingly well behaved, though that's in part attributable to the nature of the band.

Also, I just returned from a trip to Europe that included a multi-day trance festival 200km outside Berlin, where we camped out. (Well, paid 100 Euro per night for pre-set tepee tents with ground pads and sleeping bags). Point is, I'm at least putting up a fight. I also look (relatively) young, so I can lie about being 38-41 for a few more years. I try to stay open to cultural and artistic developments, at least to an extent, because people who do not are terrible. Rick and Morty kicks ass!

Breitbart traffic declines for seventh straight month
In May, Breitbart registered 6.4 million unique visitors, according to comScore, compared to 12.1 million in May 2017 and 13.7 million as recently as November.

Old and uneducated voters don't internet much. That's why Twitter is largely just libs and trolls and all the right-wing websites are grift farms propped up by third parties. I think the Mercers have also taken some steps back from Breitbart. Also, anyone at Breitbart who already knows how to spell is probably an ambassador or senior administration official at this point.

Sure, you can get enough under 35 righties of various stripes to fill a room in most cities, but they're not more significant than, say, motorcycle enthusiasts. The real money is in TV and radio aimed at a demo with an avg age of 72. Passive mediums for passive minds.

My huge point of contention has to do with that 3rd tweet,

when the reality is:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Mueller

Quote:
Tom Mueller is an American rocket engineer and rocket engine designer. He is a founding employee of SpaceX, a space transport services company headquartered in Hawthorne, California.[1] He is best known for his engineering work on the TR-106, the Dragon spacecraft propulsion, and Merlin Rocket Engines. He is considered one of the world's leading spacecraft propulsion experts and holds several United States patents for propulsion technology.[2][3]

...

For 15 years, Mueller worked for TRW Inc., a conglomerate corporation involved in aerospace, automotive, credit reporting, and electronics. He managed the propulsion and combustion products department where he was responsible for liquid rocket engine development.[1] He worked as a lead engineer during the development of the TR-106, a 650,000 lbf (2,900 kN) thrust hydrogen engine that was one of the most powerful engines ever at the time it was constructed. During his time at TRW, Mueller felt that his ideas were being lost in a diverse corporation and as a hobby he began to build his own engines. He would attach them to airframes and launch them in the Mojave Desert along with other members of the Reaction Research Society.

In late 2001, Mueller began developing a liquid-fueled rocket engine in his garage and later moved his project to a friend's warehouse in 2002.[1] His design was the largest amateur liquid-fuel rocket engine, weighing 80 lb (36 kg) and producing 13,000 lbf (58 kN) of thrust.[1] His work caught the attention of Elon Musk, PayPal co-founder and CEO of Tesla Motors, and in 2002 Mueller joined Musk as a founding employee of SpaceX.[2]

p.s.

It's like, if somebody wants to worship the dude building the rockets, then worship the dude building the rockets.

Maybe there are people saying ROCKITS R DUM but part of the leftist critique would be that, while Tom Mueller wouldn't fit the traditional mold of the downtrodden worker, the same basic labor paradigm exists and worshiping Musk specifically is insidious and downright Objectivist. Most grown people will admit Atlas Shrugged is dumb as balls but they're over here Hank Reardenizing the whole rocket affair.

I hope Mueller puts trump on a rocket and shoots it into the sun.

that doesn't explain how they had higher numbers last year. are you saying people are getting too old to use internet and are transitioning to radio? c'mon bro, the story is their enthusiasm is lagging

Fair point, I had seen something somewhere suggesting Breitbart was propped up with fake numbers, and maybe there's less propping up these days. There's obviously also less support for the policy preferences of Trump as students get shot, the rich get tax cuts, healthcare gets more expensive, the deficit balloons, kids are separated from their mothers, Muller keeps getting pleas or jailing people, and Trump keeps lying.

I just wanted to make the point that other than niche forums, like Chiefsplanet, the internet is not really for the olds, and the olds are what got Trump and the GOP Congress elected. To understand Trumpism, I think it's best to ignore the internet entirely. Online Trump supporters make noise out of proportion to their numbers.

Obviously there’s a lot of truth to this, but TRW doesn’t build orbital rockets either. Mueller’s TR 106 never flew. Why is that? Dumb luck I guess is one theory, but another theory is that there is a valuable entrepreneurship skill that involves assembling people and resources on a worthwhile task. Certainly you shouldn’t worship Musk for his entrepreneurship or any other reason, but it makes sense to give him a lot of credit for SpaceX’s success, even if he didn’t directly build or design the rockets. The idea that you can just cut a check for a billion dollars and get a rocket for it is very demonstrably false.

Lol yours went about 100 times more coherently than mine. Same scenario - my Mom - who used to be an immigration lawyer, and also hates Trump but has to vote R because Hillary chops up little babies - posted something critical of the policy.
