High end of government predictions for sea level rise would put $15 billion worth of homes in California underwater by 2045, $135 billion nationwide

Quote:
The report considers property to be “chronically inundated,” and essentially unlivable, when it’s in an area that floods at least 26 times per year, or once every two weeks. With this amount of flooding, roads routinely close and water seeps into basements. Most residents won’t want to stick around, the authors said.

The authors took their cues on flooding frequency from the 2014 National Climate Assessment’s extreme estimates for sea level rise. By this measure, Bay Area waters will be 1.7 feet higher by 2045.

hell yea i'm bout to own a beach front mansion in 25 yrs
06-18-2018 , 01:57 PM
yeah exactly, folks getting upset about all the beachfront property being destroyed are ignoring all the beachfront property being created. And it's progressive, the rich are gonna have their houses destroyed and the slightly less rich a bit further from the ocean are going to reap the benefits.

$15B in California homes is what? Huntington Harbor and Foster City? Nah, that's way more than $15B.

Another Hillbilly Elegy piece, but with a surprise twist!

^ cliffs for people who don't want to click the thread: Amy Maurer, your average hard-working midwestern Real American, is the CFO of a company and an executive officer of her county's Republican Party. Salena Zito, and by extension S.E. Cupp in this op-ed, present her as an independent persuadable voter which couldn't be farther from the truth
06-18-2018 , 03:07 PM
but it's SO IMPORTANT to present BOTH SIDES, because obviously the real world and the fantasy world which republicans live in are equally important
06-18-2018 , 03:07 PM
And she goes by Amy Giles-Maurer in both of those capacities, which means Zito and Cupp intentionally misled their editors by making it harder to factcheck. Cupp is trying to pawn this off like she was also a victim of Zito's deception but the story implies that Cupp spoke with Mrs. Giles-Maurer personally. Which means she knows her ****ing name.

But she be voted for Obama three times!

Random observation: for all the bitching you hear from far-right European nationalists about immigrants, seems any of them watching the World Cup right now must be thankful for the ones who are good at soccer.

Or maybe not, how hilarious would it be if Belgian conservatives are furious that a black dude scored two of their goals yesterday
06-18-2018 , 03:20 PM
Can we just divide the US already? Seems like the best solution at this point.

Chapo did a segment on this but the didn't mention the deception, probably because it was reported after they did it, but the goal they mention of these Conservative heartland whispers is to take these Harvard kids on safari out to the wild hinterlands of the suburbs and introduce them to the local tyrants like local Republican leaders, "small business owners", and local law enforcement and try and pass it off as if now they're getting to see the "real" America of the hard scrapping locals so the Harvard kids will "get out of their bubble" and empathize with these local warlords that regulations are too high, that the libs are pushing too hard for civil rights, etc.

Seriously, why do we even bother? Just let these people live in a separate country.

At the Legion post, it almost goes without saying that Hillary belongs in jail, the Russia investigation is a witch hunt, the Democratic Party is a treasonous band of communist hippies, and the president is bringing back the good old days. “We’re proud to be deplorables. We’re proud to have a president who gets things done and doesn’t take any crap,” said Louise Kneisley, a 69-year-old Villager from Rock Hill, S.C. “All Obama did was play golf.” When I pointed out that Trump plays more golf than Obama did, she didn’t miss a beat: “OK, but then he goes to work!”

Kneisley and her boyfriend, 78-year-old former Marine Joe Campbell, believe Obama dragged America into a virtual state of anarchy. Even though crime rates have been dropping for decades, they carry .380 Berettas when they leave The Villages in case they encounter carjackers. “Damn right—it’s dangerous out there,” Campbell says. And even though the population of undocumented immigrants did not increase under Obama, Campbell is sure they’ve been pouring across the border: “We need the wall, because a lot of them are rapists and killers — and the ones that aren’t, I’m tired of paying for them.” Campbell says he beat up two hippies who spat on him and called him a baby-killer when he returned from Vietnam, and he’s just as disgusted by those who protest police brutality today during the anthem. He sees The Villages as a refuge from America’s drift into moral decay, and Trump as the solution.

“We’ve got old-school values. We take pride in America here,” Campbell told me. “Trump gets people like us.”

Looks like Kobach will be doing some extra Continuing Legal Education.
Quote:
The disclosure violations set forth above document a pattern and practice by Defendant of flaunting disclosure and discovery rules that are designed to prevent prejudice and surprise at trial. The Court ruled on each disclosure issue as it arose, but given the repeated instances involved, and the fact that Defendant resisted the Court’s rulings by continuing to try to introduce such evidence after exclusion, the Court finds that further sanctions are appropriate under Rule 37(c)(1), which permits, in addition to exclusion of the evidence, “other appropriate sanctions.” It is not clear to the Court whether Defendant repeatedly failed to meet his disclosure obligations intentionally or due to his unfamiliarity with the federal rules. Therefore, the Court finds that an additional sanction is appropriate in the form of Continuing Legal Education. Defendant chose to represent his own office in this matter, and as such, had a duty to familiarize himself with the governing rules of procedure, and to ensure as the lead attorney on this case that his discovery obligations were satisfied despite his many duties as a busy public servant. The Court therefore imposes a CLE requirement of 6 hours for the 2018-2019 reporting year in addition to any other CLE education required by his law license. These 6 additional hours must pertain to federal or Kansas civil rules of procedure or evidence. Defendant shall file a certification with this Court before the end of the reporting period on June 30, 2019, certifying that this CLE requirement has been met.

If you tl;dr Simpliticus's post, Kobash has to personally go to lawyer traffic school for violating discovery rules.

LOl. Guess the only thing Kobach hates more than minorities voting is basic occupational competence.
