Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sparked public uproar when on Tuesday he claimed that the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, was the one who planted the idea of the extermination of European Jewry in Adolf Hitler's mind. The Nazi ruler, Netanyahu said, had no intention of killing the Jews, but only to expel them.

In a speech before the World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem, Netanyahu described a meeting between Husseini and Hitler in November, 1941: "Hitler didn't want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jew. And Haj Amin al-Husseini went to Hitler and said, 'If you expel them, they'll all come here (to Palestine).' According to Netanyahu, Hitler then asked: "What should I do with them?" and the mufti replied: "Burn them."
The right wing alliance between America, Europe, Israel and Russia is going well.

Wait isn't that what ken livingstone got branded a virulent anti semite for saying? I didn't follow it super closely but it sounds familiar.

I'm not getting any specific citations from these folks but goddamn that seems pretty heinous, and also feels totally contrary to everything I've learned which is explicitly the OPPOSITE; that employers are disallowed from discouraging employees from discussing their compensation, which is federally PROTECTED.

Does the Sherman Antitrust Act have anything to do with it?
I can remember all of the complaining about this from fellow clinicians in the early 90's, when managed care began to gain traction.

My laymen's understanding is that clinicians were/are prohibited from discussing their contracted rates because of the alleged fear of price fixing.

Whether or not this is a legitimate fear is a different matter entirely.

A bit related but also very different.

Ken was saying that hitler used to be a zionist before he went mad and got all exterminatey. This is both offensive and bizarre but maybe has no great political import.

Netanyahu is saying that muslims support(ed) genocide against jews. This appears to be about inciting emotions against Muslims, in the most dangerous calculated manner, as part of his foreign policy.

Netanyahu has been criticized for this type of thing before, but I bet it's a lot of the same "nothing matters" as it is with Trump voters. The thinking is that surely the hawks and Jewish religious zealots, of all people, would be angry here, but no. N is hating the Arabs and that's what counts. Amazing that this is said and that it's said entirely for the purpose of Jews committing religious and racial persecution, but that's the world we're living in.

I am in SoCal now, but lived in Oakland/Berkeley for like 12 years. I'll be up there next week installing solar on a friend's house in El Cerrito. Wanna help?

Trip report is not expected to be that interesting. I can already tell you the Chicago style spinach and mushroom from Zachary's will be delicious if that happens.

People who live in SF - is the homeless problem any worse than it's always been? Apparently conservatives are convinced it's spiraling out of control.

I'm pretty sure it is in every major city on the West Coast. Haven't you seen the tent encampments all over LA? The blocks full of people living in cars, trucks, trailers, and old RVs. It's hard to notice incremental changes, but a couple summers ago I went through Portland and Santa Cruz after not being there for years and the difference was stark.

What are conservatives doing? Suggesting that it's because of a terrible Obama economy? (Obvious lol if so as CA has one of the best economies in the US and if anything it's about soaring housing costs.)

Conservatives are, as always, calling for more police harassment in response to growing homelessness.

No but I might want to do a 2p2 meet up next time I’m in LA, likely late October. I thought you were going to try the 2 table pizza place not Zachary’s.

I’m sure conservatives are all over some wacky reasoning but my understanding is that SF in particular has had such an increase in housing prices that lots of people were suddenly priced out of their housing and had no real recourse other than to become homeless.

Freemarket Capitalism, Esquire will be along directly to sort out all the homelessness

I don't know - housing was always crazy expensive in SF. I don't see someone who could afford $2500/month but not $4k/month becoming homeless.

But maybe they're tearing down a lot of tenement hotels or something.

Russia is our friend.

“What did Anya do? She and her 19-years-old friend Maria Dubovik, joined a Telegram chat that’s been critical of Vladimir Putin. Participants of the chat would meet at McDonalds and talk about boys, exams and politics.

Then the chat was joined by the FSB agent, who later provided all info about its participants to the FSB and police, which caused a brutal arrest of 9 people. Police says that the activists created an ‘extremist community’ with a goal ‘to overthrow Russian President Vladimir Putin.’ Anya Pavlikova is the youngest of them, she was 17-years-old when police came to her room covered with unicorn pictures. ‘Are you a junkie? We gonna put you in jail for 20 years, you’ll get out of there as ugly, 40-years-old granny. Your parents will forget you in 2 days,’ policemen said to Anya while arresting her. One activist, Ruslan Kostylenkov, reportedly was tortured after his arrest.

Deplorables are going to be furious when they find out that great sexy man Vladimir Putin jailed some traitors/commies.

25 years ago you could get a crappy place in The Mission or maybe SoMa that wasn't too bad. I had friends who lived in the Haight and didn't make that much money either. There basically are no cheap places anymore except maybe Bayview/Hunters Point, but other than the projects I wouldn't count on that either. (yeah, a little trip on Street View shows some very nice new condo buildings right next to the projects in Hunters Point)

I remember someone getting a small studio in the worst part of the Tenderloin for $300/month when I moved to SF in '96. Then things got REALLY bananas and those went away.

But even at that time is was an order of magnitude easier to find a job than find a place to live. People were showing up to open houses with flower arrangements and essays on why they would be the best tenants ever, etc.

For all I know my old roommate is still in his rent-controlled $1000/month 2-bedroom in Nob Hill with a nice view of the Bay. How could you ever move out?

There should definitely be Politics forum meetups imo. I promise we're not all going to start brawling.

The 2 table place might be interesting, but I'm not sure I'll have time/patience for that this time. I'm up there a lot though, so maybe some day.

Another thing I noticed about that pizza place: they only sell Mexican Coke (i.e., the better type of Coke).
