I have enjoyed this song which has been played a bunch by the same Eddie Money station. It's amazing how much this song changes just with the tone. Who knew Simon & Garfunkel were so dark? Cracks me up thinking about angsty 14-year-olds thinking this is a new bad ass metal power ballad. Dude has a great voice too.

#MeToo bringing down Business Casual Nunes would be such sweet ****ing karma

Given how often it turns out that the insane **** right wingers accuse Demcorats of doing is **** that Republicans were doing themselves we're 100% gonna find out that Don Jr. is in MS-13.

Jim Jordan’s district is a masterpiece of gerrymandering. Even in ****ing Ohio Republicans have to cheat to win.

Pruitt is as stupid as he is greedy. He could get and probably is getting well hidden cash/benefits from the Kochs that dwarf all of this BS that is on display.

Don Jr. is in the Cheetos Locos chapter of MS-13

I'm still saying that Pruitt has gotten the green light to be fast tracked by the donors and that's why Trump isn't dumping him. Some donor bigwig is telling Trump to keep him because the Kochs or someone want to send him back and be a Senator from Oklahoma or something.

Pruitt is insurance to replace Sessions and fire Mueller.

If I didn't see the video, I'd think for sure that some unreleased Chris Cornell B-sides got dropped on some compilation album.

LOL the first time I saw Richie Kotzen (post Poison) he was with an outfit called the Winery Dogs (very good, their drummer is Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater) and I would've bet my life it was Chris Cornell.

Poland carries out purge of Supreme Court

Quote:
The forced retirements of up to 27 of 72 Supreme Court justices, including the top judge, and the creation of a judicial disciplinary chamber, were the latest in a series of steps by Poland’s right-wing Law and Justice Party to take over the justice system.

For years, the party has demonized judges as unreconstructed Communists and obstructionists. After taking power in 2015, it took control of the Constitutional Tribunal, which is tasked with ensuring that laws do not violate the Constitution, and gave authority over the country’s prosecutors to the Ministry of Justice. Most recently, it asserted new powers to select judges. In recent days, judges who have spoken out against the changes have reported being harassed and intimidated.
Quote:
The new law passed by Parliament requires that judges retire when they turn 65 unless they appeal to the country’s president, Andrzej Duda, who has sole discretion over whether they can remain.

Justice Gersdorf, who is 65, and more than a dozen others have refused to make such appeals, saying that the law itself was unconstitutional. Their supporters say the law was aimed at certain judges and had little to do with age, an argument that was bolstered when the government named Justice Gersdorf’s replacement: the 66-year-old judge Jozef Iwulski.

Bump from November 2016, about Poland's slide into authoritarianism. They were doing Trumpism before Trump.

A look at Poland's Law and Justice party, a right-wing nationalist group that's been around since 2001 and in and out of power since 2005, most recently winning in 2015 over the centrist party that ruled from 2007-2015.

Life was good in those 8 years, but as the NYT explains in words that will sound all too familiar to Americans right about now:

Quote:
Poland was barely scathed by the financial crisis, and in 2011 voters awarded Civic Platform a new term. During the party’s eight years in office, Poland’s economy grew by 25 percent, one of the highest rates in Europe. Life was getting better. [former president Donald] Tusk thought, as many intellectuals did, that after centuries of tragedy and oppression, Poland had at last sailed out into the calm waters of Francis Fukuyama’s supposed end of history. Civic Platform had little ideology beyond keeping hot water on tap, as Tusk put it.

“But he was wrong,” says Konstanty Gebert, a leading Polish journalist and intellectual. “People wanted history, they wanted glory, they wanted meaning.” In 2015, Gebert said, Law and Justice “offered a meaning. Their meaning was: ‘We’ll make Poland great again.’ ”
Lots of other parallels - heavily nationalist & religious (Catholic) supporters in more rural areas, former steel towns, anti-Semitism, scaremongering about refugees, paranoia that the mainstream party is intentionally hurting Poland, there's just too much to list that's all too familiar to us right now.

And then they talk about what happened after they gained power.

Quote:
The outgoing government had made appointments to replace five of the court’s 15 judges, who were scheduled to retire, a decision that was plainly unconstitutional with regard to two of the judges, whose term expired after that of the current Legislature. But the new Parliament simply invalidated all five choices and picked five new judges, which was an even more gross violation of the constitutional order. When the court refused to accept them, Duda, the president, went ahead and swore them in anyway. And that was only the beginning.
Long, but a worthwhile read.
