To add context to suzzer's tweet because I was like wtf

https://www.vox.com/2018/7/23/176035...t-a-puppy-meme

The Vox-iest paragraph I have ever read:

Quote:
“They’re good dogs Brent” transcends cynicism. That’s what makes it so powerful.

The assertion “they’re good dogs Brent” was never about aesthetics, or even about dogs. It was really about expressing a tranquil, calm joy in the face of pessimism and buzz-harshing. It was a moment in which a Hater was met, and vanquished, by the sheer power of commitment to an idealistic principle. In this case, the principle is that all dogs are good dogs. The @dog_rates Twitter account had clearly placed that principle at the heart of its simple mission, and Brient’s cynicism simply couldn’t counteract the strength of its commitment to celebrating good dogs.

OK I see what you mean, but it occurs to me that all those those times they redo the experiment adds up to a big chunk. I'm just saying unfortunately more braintime probably won't do the trick.

Latest episode of The Break was solid.

And the universe is really young and really huge. Basically the worst case for observing anything.

Basically no one has any clue about what’s going on outside our solar system, but if you’re an Oxford professor you can just throw a bunch of random numbers onto a spreadsheet and someone will actually publish it.

I legitimately don’t remember if “moderate” republicans were terrified of the tea party. I know tp has caused lots of headaches for the GOP, but it also riled up the base, so I’m not sure how much of a **** the pretend moderates gave.

FWIW - of course this makes it ridiculously hard. The receiving society would have to hit their 100 year window at the same time the radio signals from another 100 year window come in. There's no background echo or anything to a faint signal like that, right?

I had no idea about the 100 mile border zone: https://www.aclu.org/other/constitut...le-border-zone

Quote:
Even in places far removed from the border, deep into the interior of the country, immigration officials enjoy broad—though not limitless—powers. Specifically, federal regulations give U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authority to operate within 100 miles of any U.S. "external boundary."

In this 100-mile zone, Border Patrol agents have certain additional authorities. For instance, Border Patrol can operate immigration checkpoints.

The last sentence in that clip is hilariously ambiguous.

If a progressive is the candidate the GOP is going to inadvertently campaigning for them just like that.

"It was really uncomfortable having my ideas challenged."

Put on a CNN cap and stroll into a Trump rally and report back on uncomfortableness
07-24-2018 , 10:28 AM
Suzzer,

You know about the checkpoint north of San Diego where they waive through everyone who is white.

Pretty much the same thing the left and MSM does when they calls out Trump's racism.

But still you know what you never hear? A bunch of us celebrating those sweet sweet conservatard tears and nothing else.

Everytime I've gone through there they were waving everyone through except pickup trucks. But I haven't been through recently.

Btw they're building a new huge one of those just inside the border coming from Vegas. They've never had an active agricultural checkpoint there before that I can remember, but for some reason they need a 6-lane one now.
07-24-2018 , 10:35 AM
I've never been stopped in my pickup.

I don't think they stop most Hispanics, but I think they mostly stop Hispanics.

Government giving people what they want?!?! the HORROR. Government should only be giving the rich folks more money, that's what it's here for.
07-24-2018 , 10:40 AM
How are they going to pay for it? Tax the rich? That's unfair! That's crazy! Don't you want to be rich?

That message is way less convincing as rising inequality and decreasing mobility have become broadly recognized.

Her Daily Caller "column" is even more on point:

Quote:
I saw just how easy it would be, were I less involved and less certain of our nation’s founding and its history, to fall for the populist lines they were shouting from that stage.

I saw how easy it would be, as a parent, to accept the idea that my children deserve healthcare and education.
I saw how easy it would be, as someone who has struggled to make ends meet, to accept the idea that a “living wage” was a human right.
Above all, I saw how easy it would be to accept the notion that it was the government’s job to make sure that those things were provided.
Emphasis mine, all else as written.
07-24-2018 , 10:47 AM
When the tax cuts hit all the bosses are going to give raises.
07-24-2018 , 10:49 AM
I can't see how a mother could fall into the trap of thinking their children "deserve healthcare and education." Must be hormones.
