Johnny truant, I am the dumbest person in my family. I come from a really smart family and am the dumbest person there. We had a close knit group of 8 family members who were me and my cousins and siblings and ut of all 8 of them im the only one who didn't graduate college. There are a lot of freakishly smart people in my family. The only forum I talk to about politics is 2p2 right now. I know a lot of stuff that someone like me is not supposed to know so when i talk about politics to normal people I often feel like its impossible to talk about it. and also i too have the problem relaying things. If I myself were a genius I could find ways to communicate complex ideas to people of all kinds.

Overall, it seems like theres 3 categories of regular people

1.) liberals who were already awake more or less

2.) a rising tide of alt righters and conservatives whose rhetoric resembles something detached from "conservative" politics as we have understood it in my lifetime

3.) a giant group of people who never understood politics and still don't who casually view the world through a liberal view

in order of size 3>>>2>>>>1

3 is wondering why trump is president but not actually thinking about why that may be.

2 wishes trump was even more radically right wing than he seems to be

1 is still fighting the same battles they have been but with a giant clown to fgiht who has been underestimated every step of the way.

number 1 is having mixed results because they are finding out the same thing people in the 60's found out : there is a huge swath in the number 3 group who vote and on paper agree with number 1 but if they were forced to really take sides by 1 end up feeling agitated and confused out of their slumber and side with group 2.

group 2 and group 1 seem to be dividing further, although it is possible group 2 is way less influental that i worry about.

this is the part where i hit a wall because im mostly just a party goer, drinker, writer and need someone to finish my point. becuase at this point since i cant communicate the more subtle thing i am trying to communicate i would just conclude with we are more divided than ever. Which is what everyone already knows.

thats also why i tend to post mostly in lc threads because im a goofball who has problems formulating super serious ideas. but i do have them.

your posts remind me of a basquiat painting

I would say that I don't think group 3 has the slightest idea the consequences of being more divided than ever. I remember watching a movie with a segment about "the happy peddlers" these were french people happily going about their lives in 1939 completely oblivious to what was really happening.

Good evening, Bryce and SA

I found a decent anti-retina-burning plugin for chrome called TLV night mode. It has made me very happy. I'm sad that Deluminate was not as good. Such wonkiness in outlook. =-/

On side of a bus stop on way there and inside the terminal at Adelaide airport there were "fake news is not our friend" Facebook ads. Kind of weird.

Pruitt is pretty untouchable because he's a former state AG and already confirmed. So if they get the political capital to fire Sessions they can just move Pruitt into the role. Trump would probably have a hard time getting an AG confirmed that'd be willing to fire Rossenstein and completely dismantle the investigation, Pruitt will though.

"Refurbished" seems like the wrong word for what you do after a hurricane completely wrecks your city.

I'm completely confused by the CNN headlines on the Thai soccer team. I thought that they were found and rescued. Now I'm seeing headlines saying that they'll need 4 months of food and may need to learn how to scuba dive to get out of the cave. WTF is going on?

EDIT: Okay, they were only found, not rescued.

Man this is like the well story in The Simpsons only it's real. Very real.

Nah a lot of that was clearly going on before the last 9 months. Lots of old buildings that have been repurposed to modern restaurants, lofts, artisanal cupcakes - that kind of thing.

Nice thread.

And this for the love of God.

The 3 pillars of modern Republicanism:
  1. Use fear and tribalism to trump reason.
  2. Accuse your enemy of your own weakness.
  3. Create bull**** that will exhaust your enemy to refute.
