Long con. Economy crashes, rich buy up even more **** on the super cheap, economy recovers, now much richer. That's what happened after the 2007 crash.

Funny, when we bought our house we were planning on doing solar and i was thinking about seeing if you could come out and do it. However even blasting the AC our bill is never more than $200 and it’s obviously much less when the weather is cooler. I guess all those extra jobs involve pulling espresso and working in food trucks.
I saw a stat yesterday where 2018 has the highest job quitting rate since 2000. (Which I think was when they started tracking that particular number).

Not even sure what it means as it can be spun to indicate so many things.

Just a nice of talking about the rising suicide rate without saying suicide.

It'd be much easier to believe that Republicans had a positive vision for education if they didn't immediately create an oversight incentive that all but guarantee graft.

The darling of the charter school movement just went up in a fireball of graft and fraud aided and abetted by the Ohio GOP

Statements from current and former school administrators—which I found buried in depositions made as part of ECOT’s recent legal fight—show that as recently as the 2015-16 school year, students could be legally counted as enrolled even if they only logged into the ECOT systems but never accessed learning material. And in order to keep a student enrolled, and for ECOT to receive state funding, a teacher simply had to note that a student had engaged in some kind of learning or a field trip. A document from one ECOT class leaked to ProgressOhio, a watchdog group, suggested that activities like watching “television documentaries” and “working on cars” were kinds of learning that students “could/should self-report.”
ECOT administrators, in other words, interpreted the law to mean that they only had to show a student could*potentially have completed 920 hours of learning time, without the school being required to track it.

Bold move to lean into it.

He does. He has the occasional left-leaning guest like Abby Martin on the show. I guess you could call Dan Carlin and Daniele Bolelli left-leaning as well.

yeah they should rename it Pizza Hut Cardinal’s Stadium

It basically means more people are switching jobs to a better one because more jobs are available. When the financial crisis hit the number of quits tanked because job openings tanked. This chart from calculatedriskblog is a couple months old but it shows the trends.

Yeah, the whole thing seems weird. He was apparently demonstrating what *not* to say when he said it. In context it seems like the equivalent of white dudes dropping N-bombs when they're singing along to rap music: like certainly not cool but not the sort of thing you get insta-fired for when you have a PR department to smooth things out.

Really looks like everyone just wanted him gone and he gave them an opening.

I haven't listened to Joe in awhile but I don't think he's bad. He can be kind of a dick sometimes, probably all the roids, but I think his heart is usually in the right place.

I think he tries really hard to give different points of view and brings on guests from both sides but I think he'd agree with most of the policies we want.

Keeeeeds going to feel pretty bad about his pro Trump trolling when US democracy is finally shredded, but I suppose he'll be able to claim it as fake news because by then either this site will have been shut down or posts and posters critical of Trump will have been removed.

US has I believe the world's only black GM, GM Maurice Ashley, who has done a lot of work trying to popularize and promote chess in the US. Although he was not born in the US (Jamaica) he moved to the US at 12 which basically counts. The US has only like 10-15 GMs born in the US. It is a hard title to attain.

The ****ing Wu-Tang clan had their own chess site, WuChess. Not kidding. GZA is supposed to be quite a strong amateur.

Just mentioning this in the unlikely event anyone was under the misapprehension that this comment was based on any actual knowledge of black chess in the US.
