Well he actually went there, which as long as he didn't interfere, is something.

I don't recall seeing the video posted. Speaking as a nondiver, noncaver chicken****, this thing seems impractical. Being made of rocket parts is not a big plus imo.

Musk's offer 'not practical' for this mission
The head of the rescue mission, Narongsak Osotthanakorn, has been asked whether he can make use of Elon Musk's offer to help.

He says he acknowledges the help of Musk and his team, but that "the equipment they brought to help us is not practical with our mission".

"Even though their equipment is technologically sophisticated, it doesn’t fit with our mission to go in the cave."

Most likely it'd fail like Teslas are atm.

I assume he got press for this which is all he wanted anyway.

"On tilt" is from medieval jousting when you got bad beat off your horse, n00bz.

Yeah I just made that up.

Eta I guess that doesn't mean it originated with pinball.

When you get mad at pinball you rough-handle the game and tilt it. It's definitely where the poker term came from.
It's more like in high-level pinball you're supposed to nudge and shift the machine and come just short of tilting it, but if you're down in points you'll be more inclined to play and loose and accidentally tilt it. When this happens you lose your bonus points for that ball and the point deficit problem is compounded and you faster and looser, on tilt.

Yup, definitely from pinball.

And the problem with AK is definitely overplaying. I, like many who played mainly tournies would play nervous with AJ and sometimes fold A10, except late, where it's always the nuts.

I was going to say 'Don Quixote' as another film/etc.

It's not quite the same thing as pinball/poker type tilt but it should be.

Thai Navy Seal team: 12 boys and their coach are out

The Navy Seal team in charge of the rescue says that the 12 boys and their coach who were trapped in the cave have been brought out, completing an extraordinary and arduous rescue operation that captivated the world.

The Seals posted to Facebook: "12 wild boars and coach out of the cave. Everyone safe."

Assuming evil motives from those greedy enough to accumulate > $1 billion in wealth isn't the quite the same as "everyone".

I’ve heard the second story many times — TJ Cloutier mentions it in his NL book — but never the first.

Also, if the evidence is so strong that everybody knows formula is bad, why is including an evidence-based standard problematic?

Seems pretty obvious that formula is not that bad, just about every baby in my generation in America was raised on formula, but breast milk is better. You might be introducing other factors that would be hard to control for, but you could find a sample of babies for which breast milk is not available.

The whole subject is kind of rife with mansplaining though. My kids were breastfed but I basically expressed no opinion on the matter. I would have been fine with whatever my wife wanted to do.

I wouldn't trust Trump administration research into whether or not the sky was blue, let alone something with billions of dollars on the line.

The EPA's been sitting on a report about formaldehyde causing leukemia for at least 5 months.

I read the first in some poker book, possibly Big Deal, and was like, nah, it's got to be from overplaying it (I mean, it's Texas Holdem). Just doesn't make sense given how many nicknames for it are about overplaying/it never winning.

Yeah, but people wouldn't be very interested in the opinions of the owner of the smallest car company in America otherwise. Do you think the CEO of General Motors is pro-union?

it’s because babies can’t give consent to have scientific testing done on them. like, you can follow babies who were breastfed and compare their health to babies who weren’t, but putting them in a trial where you expect some babies to have worse health outcomes is where it’s unethical.
07-10-2018 , 12:57 PM
LOL that someone who is clearly as intelligent as bobman (not a dig, I mean that sincerely) would need that explained to him.

Are you saying they never do clinical trials on children? Or they can only do them if the EV of the two treatments being tested is equal (whatever that would mean)? But even if you had those rules, why couldn't you take parents who don't intend to breastfeed and randomly assign the children to receive either formula or donated breastmilk?
