Never having met him, I am not confident in my ability to plot his counterfactual beliefs, no. Anyway, in the
actual world, where he
was tortured for fighting on behalf of America, he went well beyond just being opposed to torture like the rest of us and actually passed major legislation against it. This isn't just the bare minimum standard of being against torture that he passed there, but actual action for which he should be praised.

You're not obliged to show him any deference. Death is a sign of our common humanity, even with Republicans. You should give people space to grieve or show respect.
