They didn't try, they did convince a couple of generations to eat a high carb diet.

Of course the sugar industry paid them to do it: https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-...t-blame-at-fat

Oh man, Captain Crunch with Crunchberries! I used to eat a lot of raisin bran, but for some reason I'd forget which brand had the chewier raisins that I liked and buy the wrong one only to arrive home, pour a bowl, and so disappoint. Nowadays I eat cereal mostly as a fiber supplement.

The ironic twist is that diet sort of assumed people were going to be doing semi-strenuous exercise and/or labor. It's great for that. Also, that one is a 60-20-20ish so more moderate-to-high carbs.

Yeah, that's pretty close. A bowl of Fiber One every 2 or 3 days is enough for me.

We're the only species on the planet that has to force itself to eat in ways we don't find desirable. It's remarkable how much our society fails us as a biological organism.

It's arguably lead to longer lives, and greater quality of life in old age, for humans. I can only imagine how injury prone the elderly of yesteryear would've been with almost no calcium in their diets.

I don't think that's the only benefit personally btw, but it's an open question.
Right, but your body really needs glucose and will go to great lengths to turn anything you put in your mouthhole into glucose. The high protein-low carb method is just a bizarre and inefficient way of eating a moderate carb diet with a low glycemic index. A better bet is to just eat barley and parboiled rice and legumes, for example. I've guinea pigged myself with all different ratio diets and the science behind most of them has the same goal in mind, to have a steady but moderate-to-low blood sugar level with no spikes. You're basically trying to simulate an IV drip. You can even do this with a high-carb pasta diet if you took a bite every 10 minutes throughout the day, which is also an actual thing.

The conversion is the point, otherwise you're literally starving yourself. The current ketogenic diets aren't meant to be fully ketogenic.

Also, I could totally max 2 pounds of chicken.

I wasn't planning on making a segue into how poor low-carb diets are for cognitive functioning but a wild campfirewest appeared and here we are.

Eh, I think there's only so much blame you can put on the food pyramid. Certainly, it's sub-optimal, but Americans aren't suffering from diabetes and heart failure because they scrupulously followed USDA guidelines (which include lots of fruits and veggies!). It has more to do with high-calorie junk foods becoming incredibly easy to get, fast food restaurants realizing they can increase profit margins by inflating portion sizes, and people being cavalier about diet and exercise.

Probably the USDA should have de-emphasized carbs, explained the difference between complex carbs and sugars, and etc, but mostly we shouldn't have been eating supersized bacon cheeseburgers and fries.

So you lied about your hypertension, diet, and exercise regimen? What are you even talking about?

And, holy ****ing ****, yeah I 'thought that was serious' I was actually about to send you a concerned PM. I meant to at the time but it slipped my mind. Now, because I am fickle, I hope all the bad things happen to you. Wait nah, not actually, but still, wow.

I don't think trump is healthier than I am and I thought that was your point. Sorry if I missed what you were trying to say. Maybe I am the dumb one after all. Sorry.

What was your point?

Anyway, if you are legit concerned the health care system in the US has me going to a **** doctor who could not wait to prescribe me medication based on two high bp readings during my two visits. I started tracking my bp on my own at home and it is very slightly elevated but below prehypertension based on weeks of data rather than the two white coat syndrome reading in the office.

By the way, for my family I pay 12k a year for the bottom bronze plan coverage (guaranteed to go up after the torpedoed mandate) and the two visits in question have been billed to me at over $800 for my portion. The blood tests she ordered were billed at $1800 to the insurance company (pre discount) and my part was $92 and showed I am low in vitamin A.

She told me I should excersise. She told me 150 minutes a week. I already excersise like I said, but regardless...telling someone to just start excersising 30 minutes five times a week is about the least helpful advice you can give.

I told her I eat sardines nearly every day. She said to be careful of mercury. Sardines are very low mercury.

She told me I should start taking pain killer for joint pain I was concerned about even though I told her the pain was not disruptive at all....ibuprofen regularly. When I reiterated I was not concerned with pain management but just wanted to report it because I was concerned that it showed up she again said I should take it even though there are new studies out that it is terrible to take it long term.

My point? I don't believe anything she says because the advice she gave me that I actually am informed about was mostly wrong. I am switching doctors this month.

Yeah. I was taking fish oil pills for omega 3 and decided it was pretty gross. I also was taking coconut oil every morning because of this admitted bro science theory that starting your day off with fat and protein and zero carbs then introducing carbs later would regulate blood sugar spikes or at least cravings. When the coconut oil reports were restated about it being bad for cholesterol (I am not sold that that is so based on the studies but since there are alternatives I just dropped it) I looked for an alternative fat source. I had heard about sardine breakfasts from a few places, they have good fat and protein and omega 3s and I also like doing weird **** so I tried them. They actually tasted way better than I thought they would. I eat a can every morning with my kids who are as weird as I am.

My good cholesterol was through the roof on that $1800 blood test.

Hmmm, we're out of milk so no cereal tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll pick up a can of sardines on the way to work.

My kids are even weirder and are vegetarians so none for them.

a lot of the glycemic index stuff has been debunked, esp irt sugar peaks. so ya, the bolded is pretty much junk science that you just railed against.
