Re: January LC Thread **Survivor White House Edition**

In my long-ago construction days, we worked on a house with a large steel-reinforced concrete "room" smack in the middle. It was a nice custom home but not exactly a mansion so it was pretty unusual. The rumor was that it was for somebody with mob connections. Not much of a story, but if the nukes start flying, at least there's a chance something I worked on will survive.

I know hypocrisy no longer matters, but it just struck me that the same people who whine about diversity in the workplace are also the people who whine about this forum being an echo chamber.

Diversity: it only matters when straight white male republicans are affected.

I installed a home stereo one time for a gay guy in SF who had a two story Christmas tree in his living room - year round - which hung from the ceiling and rotated - and an oil-wrestling room with soft mats and all mirrored walls.

That's all I got.

That sounds horrifying. The land in san francisco is beuatiful but some of the people there that ive hung out with they don't have my sense of etiquette or grace. also last time I was in the castro district there was this gay guy with obvious mental problems following me around in the street and grabbing my arm.

Dvaut,

Not just destroying political discourse but the planet as well.

Is insecurity about manliness killing the planet

Quote:
Brough and Wilkie found both men and women in the US and China cleaved to a “green-feminine” stereotype. Eco-friendly behaviours, products and consumers were judged more feminine than non-green equivalents. So taking a reusable canvas bag on a shopping trip was judged more feminine than brandishing oh-so-macho plastic bags.

Then, when the researchers “threatened” the masculinity of male participants by asking them to use a pink floral gift card to purchase three products (a lamp, rucksack and batteries), they found the pink gift card-holding men were more likely than men possessing a neutral gift card to choose non-green products over environmentally friendly ones.
Quote:
One experiment found men more likely to donate to Wilderness Rangers – a fictional charity with a black and blue howling wolf logo – than Friends of Nature, with a twee font and tree symbol.

Oddly all this 'disrupting' of stifling Christian morality ends up looking like the ideal male fantasy with a lot of exploitation of women. The Hippies already tried that in the 60's and it didn't end up so well.

I have found that, with practice, I am capable of taking the things I previously carried from shelf to cashier, then cashier to vehicle, and subsequently carrying those same items from vehicle to house.

Re: January LC Thread **Survivor White House Edition**

I make dozens of trips to the grocery store each week to ensure I never have more items than I can comfortably carry at once.

Seriously tho, people make a hudge deal about paper vs. plastic vs reusable canvas totes when the real problem is that we're constantly putting **** in bags for no damn good reason at all.

I go to the deli for a sandwich and they wrap it in butcher paper sealed with a bit of tape, which is fine for getting it to wherever I'm going to eat it intact. And then they put it in a bag.

I buy a six pack, which already has a god damn handle, and they put it in a bag.

I buy one or two small items of whatever and every single ****ing time I have to tell the cashier, "I don't need a bag" when they reflexively reach for one. And then they look at me like I'm the crazy person because I violated the social norms of using absolutely ****ing absurd amounts of totally unnecessary packing for every single purchase and product.

I now generally have to make three trips from my car to apartment to get my groceries in. Rough estimate: that number would increase to ten without bags. Since I park about a block away, I'd get a nice mile walk (half juggling unbagged groceries) every week when I shop. I'm gonna go ahead and say I'm glad for the bags.

He may have more than one house. If you Google "Charlie Munger's house" you'll see a satellite picture and can see the solar. I don't think he designed it because it's as old as he is.

It's very nice with a lot of land for where it is. It's modest for a billionaire, but it's still a very rich person house.

If you really know your solar modules you can tell from the pic that he has very unusual ones: SOLYNDRA! It was and may still be the only residential installation. They were designed for commercial properties.

This is why all guns should be colored pink with the world "Princess" bedazzled down the side. Would stop all this gun-fetish nonsense in it's tracks.

I've read about your (collective 'your', aka forumites in general) quirkiness for the better part of a decade now and am genuinely curious how many of y'all fall somewhere on the spectrum.

I enjoy watching people who live in $multi-million homes trying to juggle 10 items coming out of the grocery store to save 10˘ on a bag. The best is when they get to their car and have to somehow dig for their keys.

Those 10˘ are nice too! Thick and luxurious. Just how cheap were the bags before LA implemented the mandatory bag fee?

Re: January LC Thread **Survivor White House Edition**

so bundy went and got permaed due to posting in the sporting events politics thread. pretty impressive display of idiocy.

first he tried to explain that teh gays are ruining society and after that odios display clark and the rest of the mods told him to gtfo the thread or else. he did not pay them any mind and continued to post without respite, although, tbf, he stuck to innocuous poasts about random australian topics that no one knew or cared about. I guess, for this reason, they gave him leeway and despite the perma threat let him remain.

but that wasnt good enough for ole bundy and when mt2r let loose his own hot take that trump is not racist and it is absurd to even consider that, bundy had to jump in with the scalding take that it is ok that trump is racist as long as he "protect(s) America from the evil that is extreme Islamic terrorism."

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/s...ostcount=42662

I am quite disappointed there hasnt been an atf post yet.

My typical grocery store haul is like <6 items and I don't get bags.

My wife, who does most of the shopping, has reusables.

Chicago has gotten to the opposite point, fortunately. Many places won't even offer you a bag initially. They just stare at you like you're a crazy person for not loading up your pockets or figuring something out.
