I went shopping at the Goodwill with a beautiful friend in gradschool. She picked up a peacoat for $20 and rocked it for like 10 years. Looked great.

My friend's Dad lived in Atlanta for the Dem convention in '88. We went down there and conned our way in as Dukakis' staff. That badge got us into every bar in down at age 18 - and a bunch of parties. Met Llloyd Bentson's hot daughters. We never really helped the campaign much though. Probably why he lost.

Same. Though I really didn't know what exactly was going on. I mostly relied on the voices around me telling me what to think at that age.

Your conclusion is ridiculous and portraying employees there as victims is more ridiculous.

I like Chick Fil A but don't go there that often because the place is a madhouse inside and the drive up lines are really, really long very often. Mostly for lunch though. The Bagel, Egg, Cheese, and Chicken thing is pretty good for breakfast and lines aren't too bad then. Coffee isn't as good as McDucks though. Tough choices and balancing preferences is so, so stressful today.

Maybe you prefer your service extra obsequious.

Mistreating minimum wage workers cowed into submission by their bosses is the only time adios feels alive.

I mean of all the things to beef with CFA about, drawing the line at the girl in the drive through saying "my pleasure" is really a scalding take.

Encouraging time theft and surly service is good praxis

Very little in life sends me into a rage more than watching old white dudes berate service staff.

When the angry customer yells at the service staff, then calls the manager, and the manager apologizes for staff regardless of how big an idiot the customer was, that sucks. I'm an employer and while this sort of thing doesn't come up often for us, I don't expect people to eat whatever **** they are served just because I'm paying them to work.

Opinions on Jim Risen?

Formerly of the NYT, presently with The Intercept, has a new article out on reporting in the post-9/11 war on terror era government and media suppression of info.

What happened to Risen post-9/11 is truly disturbing for press freedoms in our country. I realize here, especially given the past year, Obama is seen as the pure nuts, but the fact his administration continued Bush's persecution of Risen because he wouldn't give up his source was really troubling for me. Also, those types of actions from even a Democratic administration will just embolden our current deplorable one even more.

And obviously the way that the government can throw around scare words like 'terrorism' to subdue articles it does not want published is extremely harmful to a democracy.

The best management display I've ever seen was when I was standing in line at McDonalds. The guy in front of me was being a dick and started yelling at the cashier. She seemed brand new and didn't know how to handle it and started crying. Manager comes over and the guy starts complaining to him. Manager gives him his money back and asks him to leave. The guy protests goes "what, you're not going to serve me..." and the manager tells him flatly, "you upset my cashier, you need to leave now". The guy looked stunned, froze for a second, and then turned and walked out. Then the manager put his arm around the cashier and took her to the back.

Nowadays that would probably be considered sexual harassment.

Everyone who makes this joke should automatically get some sort of a rapey undertitle.
