I lived with the Lubavichers for a semester in college. I don't think they ever talked about the modern state of Israel or politics. I got tired of them waking me up at dawn and offending them by driving my motorcycle on Saturday and moved into another Jewish place that turned out to be a Zionist organization. Some of them were pretty Orthodox/Frum, but not all. Most of the people in that house weren't Zionisty though and it evolved into a pretty rebellious place. I just ended up in these places because of being desperate for housing (though I did actually like the 2nd place quite a bit).

It's not, no. It's full of really quite unpleasant racists, especially in the occupied territories. And the Israeli supreme court has no jurisdiction in East Jerusalem, which is not Israeli territory, so that ruling is obviously illegal and the judges just don't care. They're a party to ethnic cleansing and the US will go along with any illegality they indulge in, because of right-wing American racism against Arabs, and they just don't care. This is not the Israel that we were invited to support for sufficient reasons back in the day. The fact that the reasonable and humane element just can't make headway against the increasingly bonkers cult created by the occupation since '67 is mighty depressing.
