If impeachment happened tomorrow, the Secret Service would turn on him.

Even if Trump were ousted I'm more concerned about the root cause that got the guy elected in the first place. Too much of the population have surrendered themselves to propaganda and it'll be hard to fish them out of that hole. That can take a long time once it takes root.

Bill Clinton was impeached, he didn't have leave because he wasn't found guilty. Being impeached isn't enough, a trial and conviction are required.

On Future President Pence
Quote:
We've covered plenty of these before, but here's a refresher:

In March, Pence signed a bill into law requiring burial or cremation for aborted fetuses.
Last month, Pence said he'd like to "send Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history."
Pence signed a 2015 bill permitting Indiana business owners to cite religious beliefs as a reason to refuse service to gay and lesbian customers.
As Indiana's governor, Pence slashed Planned Parenthood funding, arguably contributing to one county's HIV outbreak.
During his 12 years as a congressman, Pence voted against nearly every piece of environmental legislation.
Pence voted to bar the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases.
Pence voted for opening the Atlantic up to offshore oil drilling.
As a congressman, Pence gave a floor speech advocating the teaching of creationism in public schools.
Pence wrote an op-ed arguing that "smoking doesn't kill."
Pence has advocated the use of public funds for conversion therapy, a discredited and potentially harmful form of anti-gay therapy.
Gov. Pence funneled $3.5 million in Indiana's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds, intended for needy families with children, to crisis pregnancy centers, which counsel women against having abortions.
Gov. Pence refused to comply with Obama administration rules aimed at reducing prison rape.
As congressman, Pence voted in favor of a bill that would have allowed for the detention of undocumented immigrants seeking hospital treatment.
Pence co-sponsored a bill in Congress that would have eliminated automatic citizenship for children born on US soil to undocumented parents.
Pence was one of 31 governors to oppose the resettlement of Syrian refugees in his state, declaring that state agencies wouldn't cover the cost of some social services for Syrian refugees. His behavior earned him a strong rebuke from a panel of three federal judges, including one whom Donald Trump put on his Supreme Court nominee short list.
Bwahahaha!!

Look how fat his ass is. That's how much of America sees itself in the mirror. He represents them well.

Re: *** Impeachment Watch ***

How We'll Know If Trump Has A Real Problem ...

History serves as a preamble, specifically the history of the Watergate scandal.

The pillars of Government did not begin shaking until a Saturday night in October of 1973 when Richard Nixon ordered Elliott Richardson, his Attorney General, to fire Archibald Cox. Mr. Cox was the Special Prosecutor charged specifically with the task of getting to the bottom of Watergate and finding out what crimes, if any, had been committed. Up to this point most of the country believed Nixon's protestations that Watergate was "poppycock" (that he had nothing to do with) and he was going to concentrate "... on doing the peoples' work" while others wallowed in Watergate. That perception rapidly changed as a result of the infamous "Saturday Night Massacre" when Nixon fired both Richardson and Richardson's deputy, William Ruckelshaus, who also refused to fire Mr. Cox. Robert Bork, the third-in-command at the Department of Justice, agreed to fire Mr. Cox - a decision for which he paid dearly when he was rejected by the Senate for appointment to the United States Supreme Court.

The FBI, under Director James Comey, is currently conducting an extensive investigation into Trump's alleged Russian ties. (Presumably this ongoing investigation is focused on possible criminal violations.) According to the Washington Post

https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...=.150373c3aa83

Comey was pressured, reportedly at the urging of unnamed Trump administration sources, to make a public statement exonerating Mr. Trump of any possible [criminal] culpability. Mr. Comey refused to issue such a public statement. (According to other reports, key members of both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees - as well as committee staffers - were asked by Trump officials to pressure Mr. Comey directly with the assertion that "... there is nothing to be investigated. Therefore, Mr. Comey should stop his investigation.")

The way we'll know if President Trump has a serious problem is if (or when) we see history repeating. If Trump orders his Attorney General to fire Mr. Comey, then it's 1973 all over again.

Trump can just fire Comey himself. Don't think the AG needs to be involved.

My wife and fashion ourselves as pretty politically aware, but I'll admit we were hitting google this morning to try to find out what ISSA stood for........until realizing it was the last name of a representative in California.

Oh, and count me among those who thinks that impeaching Trump but leaving Bannon in the picture would result in not a whole lot of positive change.....

What do you mean by the bolded?

And there's really no reason to think Bannon would stay if Trump were impeached.

It has to be getting close to the point of no return. Sessions is going to be out within a month, and its not going to stop there.

Re: *** Impeachment Watch ***

An impeachment seems very unlikely given how polarized the parties are right now.

If go back to the Nixon era, you had still had conservative democrats and liberal republicans, so the party lines were mixed. That made a majority possible and probable (which is why he resigned before it could happen).

The Reagan era pretty much set down the party lines and from the early 90s the parties have become increasingly split. Trump has to take a drastic drop in support from republican voters before representatives are even going to consider an impeachment. His base support seems almost impervious to scandal however, even clear-cut evidence is very quickly discounted as propaganda or ignored. I doubt direct evidence against himself personally will be treated any differently.

You're in a political mess. A 2018 democrat gain will probably only drive the wedge harder into the ground.

Re: *** Impeachment Watch ***

There won't be an impeachment.

Because Ryan wouldn't start the proceedings unless he knew he would win a conviction in the Senate.

If the President knew, a conviction was sure, he would just resign.

And if he didn't resign, but the story was a smoking gun showing that the President was compromised, the Vice President and the Cabinet would depose the President via the 25th Amendment. And the Congress would sustain the invocation.

Pence would be President.
