If Democrats were the party of cruelty If Democrats were the party of cruelty

Just as a fun thought experiment, let's pretend for a moment that Dems were the mean party who did things just to be spiteful and damaging to the lives of Americans that don't vote for them. Aside from enacting most of the GOP's policies, what would that look like?

One example I can think of would be to gut the USPS. There's no chance that sending a letter down the street costs the same as it does to send a letter to BFE. One way we could stick it to the rural moochers is to stop subsidizing their letter carrying. Let them pay the real cost of postage and see if they really need to live so far away from civilization.

I'm sure there's dozens of other subsidies to farms and telecommunications providers that could be removed, or policies implemented to **** with white America. Let's taco bout them.

cut agricultural subsidies and promote organic city farms

have public schools teach richard dawkins style evolutionary biology from an early age. also: properly fund public schools and make private schools illegal

stop giving tax benefits to churches. these institutions are holding massive amounts of land and they're not using it to best benefit society. if a church wants to open a homeless shelter, then that's a charitable deduction same as anyone can make, but we shouldn't let this scam continue tax free when we tax every other scam business

a massive infrastructure plan centered on building elon musk's HYPERLOOP. blow past middle america at 800 mph on the nonstop chicago-las vegas route

One word: Reparations.

Not cruel enough. You have to fund it by cutting all spending on all things with Ronald Reagan's name on it - streets, libraries, anything.
07-10-2017 , 09:55 PM
to be both fair and cruel about it i think you have to levy an extra tax on historic slave-owning counties in order to pay for it

Eliminating tax-free status for religious organizations

Demanding that religious texts and teachings include scientific material that we "feel" should be there

Abolish the 2nd Amendment, and place all known gun owners on a watch list so that they will be harassed at airports

End hunting season everywhere, for everything, permanently

Mandatory 3rd-trimester abortions if you've received any form of public assistance in the last 15 years, are unemployed, scored before the 40th percentile on your SAT

Student loans for STEM fields only, unless you identify yourself as an artist

Federal building code mandating distinct bathrooms for no less than 8 recognized gender types, with another two in reserve for future additions

Banning gluten

Reparations

Bring back Seinfeld, only recast the lead with Chiwetel Ejiofor

Heavy EO standards to all entertainment channels

Tax coal to death

Growth of insults based on a person's net carbon emissions

Univesral healthcare loosely based on Sharia Law

These are just good centrist ideals though. How about:

-Free weed for abortion doctors.
-Free AR15s for toddlers visiting Mara Lago.
-Death to anyone that received a quarter billion dollars with a spray tan, bad comb over, and tiny hands.
-Force the top 3 percent of income earners to build solar panels from a prison cell. Rape them repeatedly because of the deficit. Call it freedom.

Define a food desert as 1 mile away from a grocery store in urban environments and 10 miles away in rural ones.

Removing the obvious troll solutions: since the leftist case is that white privilege has afforded whites tons of undue wealth which is buttressing their privilege, and what the poor are really lacking is wealth, then the obvious policy which comes closest to actually moral and a good idea but which would utterly **** and trigger GOP voters -- but still approaches a valid idea -- is an aggressively enforced 100% estate tax where all the revenue is redistributed in a means tested way. Put into public schools where there isn't much wealth, or just handed out to poor people as a cross-subsidy. The right would lose their ****, but just state with a plain face it's the only tax that penalizes the dead and not workers and nice families and stuff.

Obviously middle class and up whites will still have tons of built in advantages but that's the closest "pass legislation you know would unevenly burden and taunt voters who don't vote for them" that approaches a 'good' idea or isn't just simply malice or trolly. I want to be candid this would have all sorts of unexpected effects and I'm not actively endorsing it, but it isn't simply cultural agitation and would genuinely harm GOPers far more than Democrats, and given experience with past inheritance tax debates, this is highly triggering for white people and Republicans likely because they know they derive so many benefits and long-standing privilege from inherited wealth and fight tooth and nail to preserve it.

How about liquidating all of the Federal property that was built with slave labor and using the funds to fix the Flint water supply?

Also unlike so much of our political culture where the provocative are intentionally provoking the middle class and working class and below, this is the sort of policy where the effects are drastic as you head up the spectrum toward the elites and mega rich. That is to say, so much of political stress in democracies are basically outsourced to the middle class to feel agitated about. This is the kind of policy that would get the elites and wealthy and mega rich frothing with rage.

I think David Brooks is broken.

"To feel at home in opportunity-rich areas, you've got to understand the right barre techniques, sport the right baby carrier, have the right podcast, food truck, tea, wine and Pilates tastes, not to mention possess the right attitudes about David Foster Wallace, child-rearing, gender norms and intersectionality."

David Brooks just left his wife and kids for his research assistant and continues to write sanctimonious columns about the deterioration of families unironically.

In his defense, most of his columns are actually written by his research assistants.

Mandatory drug testing for directors and officers of all companies claiming the business interest deduction, all owners of farms receiving farm subsidies, all sports team owners and executives whose teams' stadiums were financed with tax free bonds, all religious leaders whose places of worship claim the religious tax exemption, possibilities are endless here really.

Massive taxes on all private aviation to offset environmental impact.

Drug testing for disability recipients along with quarterly review of disabled status with a doctor chosen at random by the government.

National sales tax on services including legal fees, accounting, etc.

Carbon tax on NASCAR, paid via ticket surcharges.
