Have you voted? Have you voted?

I voted the first day of early voting at approximately 3:45 in the afternoon and there were six other voters there - average age probably 87 and one or two of them legitimately might have been doing so out of fear of not making it to election day. Of course I'm in a state where the outcomes of every important race is basically in the bag, but at least I had ballot questions to give me a sense for the first time in a while that my vote matters.

gobbo - awesome. Thanks for voting and welcome to the midterms!

If you're interested in doing more I suggest you check outhis thread where I've shared ways you can text voters in swing states to try and get out the vote.

LOL. I guess if you've voted early and die before election day your vote still counts. I wonder if it should..

Thanks for voting!

I'm in line right now... Didn't expect one but I've never voted early before, so I don't know if it's unusual here. The line skews young and female, for whatever my ~75 person sample is worth.

Woohoo! hard to not let yourself feel optimistic with all the talk of lines at early voting

True, although it's possible people are just so riled up to vote that they're voting early instead of on 11/6. But it seems to be a very good sign...

So a little more about my voting experience... A woman who has voted early in that location before said that the line was not normal. She also said this was only the second time she's voted and she's 34. So that's a good sign...

While standing in line, I overheard a woman a couple people ahead of me complaining to the guy she was with about how Kavanaugh was confirmed by a Senate that represents a minority of the American people, due to the structural disadvantage. She started talking about a Constitutional amendment to change the Senate structure, and I (as politely as possible) joined the conversation and told her to call her members of Congress and push them to fight for DC and Puerto Rico statehood, since that was our best chance.

She said then we have to do something about the Supreme Court. I said, "Yes, we do... We need to pack it. That would be your next call!"

We then discussed gerrymandering, and a lot of people were taking pictures of the line and talking about how long it was.

I couldn't help but think, ironically, of George W. Bush standing at Ground Zero, shouting into a megaphone, "They're going to hear from all of us soon!"

A bunch of racists/sexists/bigots and the 1% teamed up and dealt us a huge blow in 2016, and they have shaken this country to its core... We're in dire times politically, but standing in that line to vote it sure felt like they're going to hear from all of us in five days. Let's hope so - and let's hope that polling has failed to capture the breadth and depth of this blue wave.

Florida voter. Voted last Saturday. Voted all Dem, voted no on all amendments except 4, which is felon voter rights reinstatement. I’ll be poll watching on Election Day, too.

That's nice to hear, cuse. I hope people are waking up to the structural problems.

Ugh. I'm getting very pessimistic about the Georgia gubernatorial race. Final AJC poll has it at a dead heat, Abrams 46.9 percent to Kemp 46.7 percent. Libertarian got 1.6, undecided 5.

If nobody gets 50 percent, it goes to a runoff and Republicans ALWAYS win runoffs in Georgia. The margin of error is going to have to swing in Abrams' favor, plus undecideds are going to have to vote for her. If she doesn't get more than 50 percent, I think it's over.

EDIT: And yes, I understand that this is just a poll.

If I want to canvas / gotv what's the best place to start? (assuming there is some organizing already that I can contribute to).

Arlington, Virginia, so not much that matters, but would still like to help

Finally voted today. Straight Dem. No on question 3 in Nevada.
The other initiatives were pretty obvious.

The only initiative I'm undecided on is #6 - I'm all in favor of pushing for more solar/renewables - I just hate the idea of doing it by altering the state constitution - everyone needs to stop doing that ****.

A big no on 3 - all I had to know was Sheldon was behind it. If it was free beer for everyone, I'd be against, because **** him.

Pick a nearby swing district, look at the campaign's website - click on events and there should be some opportunities for canvassing and such... or a form to fill out to sign up to volunteer.

VA-05 and VA-07 should be your closest. In VA-07, Abigail Spanberger has around a 40-45% shot at winning and in VA-05, Leslie Cockburn has a 35-52% chance. Pretty wide spread on that one across all the 538 forecasts.

You're a 45 minute drive from VA-05 and about an hour and 15 minutes from VA-07.

I'm planning on driving about two hours on election day to volunteer in a district (PA-01) in which 538 is giving the Democratic candidate a 43-53% chance to win. It seems like a way better use of time than volunteering in a district that's a near-lock.

Www.swingleft.org will get you on the right track to make an impact in races close to you.

Or ResistanceLabs.com if you want to do some text banking.

Thank you, every little bit helps!

SwingLeft.org is probably easier to use than going campaign by campaign... Good call!

I have considered canvassing/text bank stuff, but I am leaning more towards my original idea of going to my local college campus and blasting people with a megaphone. I hate talking on the phone and I hate all these campaign calls. I live in the heart of CA48 fwiw.

The new favorite republican word in Florida is "RADICAL". Also, never seen so many commercials with sheriffs.

There's a rally on Sat. in NB or Irvine with Newsome and Kamala Harris and some local people. You need to register to attend. PM me if you (or anyone else) wants the registration URL.

I don't think you should go to a campus. 1) The college kids are already activated and 2) outsiders are rarely appreciated on campuses (you may not get kicked off, but you will get the stink eye from many students).

Yup, that's what the anti-Abrams ads are in Georgia. That she's "radical." The tagline is "too extreme for Georgia."

Of course, now that Oprah was here, there's the old "we don't want Hollywood liberal values" thing, too.

EDIT: She didn't come to my house.

Sure send it. Also i am a former student as recently as a few years ago so i dont really feel like an “outsider” but idk what i will do yet.

I know for a fact I will not get kicked off. This school has an actual nazi that goes and protests every few months and nothings done about him.

It was a popular slur among Republicans already in the 1950s.

I feel the same way about a runoff in GA. I am worried that that's destiny if Abrams can squeak out a small margin "win" in the race and simply don't think we can match turnout numbers in a runoff though I could see Abrams just crushing the funding game over the next month if it came to that.

Keep in mind that if you canvass, text bank or phone bank you'll be reaching out directly to people that the campaign and organizations supporting the campaign have identified as likely Democratic voters who are residents of the district/state. On a college campus with a megaphone you'll be indiscriminately yelling at everyone to vote, while some may have out of state residence, vote for the wrong candidate, or just not be likely to listen at all.
