Have you voted? Have you voted?

10-29-2018 , 03:26 PM
Voted at about 2:30pm. Maybe three other people voting at the same time, but its a very quick process, especially if you know how you're going to vote before you get there. They used paper ballots fed into a machine. Seems like a sound method. Love the paper backup aspect.

I made sure to wear a bright blue shirt and blue shorts just to send a message to any deplorables that I was essentially cancelling their vote.

Sent in my ballot today.

Voted last week. Did not vote for any incumbent and probably never will again.

Absentee sent in a couple of weeks ago. I registered R in 2016 specifically to vote against DT in PA’s closed primary. I keep getting text messages from RCCC(?) reminding me to vote. Assume they don’t see replies but I keep sending back “I did vote D and D stands for Dump Trump.”

Voted early today, it was simple. Nothing of note nationally, but there is a bill up to make juries be unanimous before convicting someone of a felony that better pass. Only Louisiana and Oregon go with a different standard, in our case it's currently 10/12. Also a bill to allow fantasy sports gambling in New Orleans, which yes please.

Just drove by the closest early voting location (just opened this week). Long line onto the sidewalk. My wife voted early on her second try - the first place she went to had an enormous line, so she just kept driving.

I'll be voting on election day - there's never a line at my polling place. If there is, it will be 10 minutes, tops.

I voted yesterday. I would never ever ever ever vote Party ticket but I did vote for all democrats except for one independent who was running for a silly position and had the same name as one of my brothers.

Since I am texas I know I just straight out canceled a vote by another relative which I am fine with.

Everyone vote. Please vote. Just ****ing vote.

That is crazy. We have had early voting in Texas for a very long time, which seems backwards.

I would be cool with early voting being a requisite thirty day period for the whole country. Even better all campaigning must be suspended during that period.

Our campaign cycles are much too long and actual voting Windows much too small. Two birds.

Just dropped off my first ever mail in ballot & first ever midterm vote. Straight dem ldo.

Lets do this boys.

Did vote already in Indiana, only voted for Dems in the races where I did vote, but I only voted when I felt I knew enough to do so. That means I left some races alone. I'm a lawyer and voted "retain" on judges when I knew them (even if only through reputation of people I respect), but on judges I'm unfamiliar with I just left them alone. I assume that judges always survive up-or-down votes in the absence of significant negative publicity anyway. Indiana has that option up front of "vote all Democrats" or "vote all Republicans," which I hate and won't participate in even if I were planning to cast a vote in every race for one party.

Most importantly voted Donnelly for Senate. Voted Andre Carson also, but he's a mortal lock with or without my vote.

I didn't have a wait (in downtown Indianapolis), but the place was relatively busy and I had the one free ballot box when I walked in around lunchtime on a weekday. I did double-check my printout to make sure that it reflected my screen-inputted votes accurately.

I voted today. The only race where my vote could really matter is the state senate. The incumbent is one of the teachers' main targets, and would be a good scalp.

I've literally had a bad taste in my mouth since voting for Manchin. I almost accidentally voted for the Libertarian. I caught it on the printout and changed it. I think my subconscious was messing with me.

Straight Democrat, voted for school, fire, and animal shelter property tax levies (I honestly think I don't pay enough property tax), and against an anti-abortion constitutional amendment and an amendment giving the legislature oversight over the supreme court budget.

Maybe I'm paying more attention or maybe it's worse. Dunno. But my unofficial out of my butt tally on ads in Florida looks like this.

The other guy(gal) is a horrible human being - 70%
I'm a good guy(gal) - 21%
The platform of the other guy will destroy the world - 7%
This is my platform - 2%

I don't know how anyone that just sees ads can possibly know what any candidate's agenda is.
10-31-2018 , 09:29 AM
Voted by mail last week in a red state so suspect my ballot is headed for a trash heap, but can always hope.

I was in front of a TV for a bit yesterday tuned to a station based in NY's 19th district, which is one of the most coin flippy and heavily fought in the country. The barrage of ads was so incessant that I have to assume everybody tuned it all out and the campaigns were lighting money on fire. The only real effect I can imagine those ads having is that people just stop watching TV.

Yeah - in Reno it's pretty much 24/7 Rosen vs Heller. We aren't even trying to watch the local news until after the election. And to the poster above - we're running 100% my-opponent-is-a-douchbag-who-punches-three-legged-kittens in our ads - NO mention of why you should vote FOR a particular person. It's depressing.

Oprah is coming to Georgia to canvas for Abrams.

I'm actually quite curious where she'll campaign. I think Will Ferrel targeted young demographic areas, but Oprah probably wouldn't resonate with them as much. Feels like my area - upper-middle class suburb - would be her wheelhouse, but it could be minority areas.

Either way, it would be cool if she came to my house. We actually have a friend in common. Would be fun to chat with her for a minute.

there are town halls in Marietta and Decatur tomorrow where Oprah will be with Abrams. Obama coming to campaign for Abrams on Friday (I believe at Morehouse). Hopefully they are both literally out in neighborhoods as well throughout the day.

Does anyone have suggestions for how to read up/vote on local ballot measures? I just looked at our sample ballot for Baltimore City and there are a bunch of measures to authorize the city to borrow money to fund various things (affordable housing, public parks, public campaign financing, etc etc). They're all things that I'm in favor of providing funding to, but the city as a whole has pretty incompetent leadership and I don't know that I necessarily want THIS leadership to be the one using those borrowed funds. As I type that out, though, I realize that it makes me sound like a crusty old person. I think right now my plan is to vote yes on all of them absent some specific reason not to.
Ballotpedia has non-partisan info on everything (including arguments for / against if there are any). In other non-partisan sources, the league of women voters (who are awesome) put this together: https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.ne...pdf?1538496585

HOLLA. Yes paper backup is now required.

Thank you for voting! I think your "never incumbent" position is a overly simplistic and will lead to you voting for people you may not like or agree with

omg that non-unanimous jury law is soooo racist. At least that's it's origin - like it the racism of that law was explicitly discussed as a perk when it was passed.

Cool, good luck! I've wondered if early voting lines are sometimes longer than election day lines.

Go BETO! Cancelling out right wing relatives is basically the best reason to vote.

Yeah Donnelly needs your vote for sure. TBH I'm not sure why there's value in voting for judges, although I guess it's better than having them be political appointees.

What's your objection to Manchin? Just that he's basically an R in lots of ways? Thanks for voting!

Yes, and this is a hard one this cycle because stopping trump is a HUGE part of the value that any D candidate brings. But that's somehow not the world's most compelling message., it seems.

Thanks for voting. Luckily they don't know who you voted for before they open it so there's at least one less opportunity for them to throw it away

Oregon has some sneaky horrible laws, I guess they're just old and no one's bothered to fix them?. We also have basically that same terrible "stand your ground" law that Florida does. Hopefully the militant racists haven't realized that yet.

Voted in GOP primaries.

Will vote straight blue on election day.

Never been black people in Oregon. I wonder why.

Voted officially a few days ago. I've been here a lot since 2016 (lurking mostly) and have been very active since then in paying attention to everything but this is my first midterm vote. Trying to get young people to vote whenever I see someone I'm comfortable enough to talk to.
