One small messenging item...They should stop calling it a government shutdown and just keep saying that Trump is refusing to give 1,000,000 Americans their paychecks and causing them to go hungry and get evicted.

I wasn't joking about the people dying. I was joking about the click-bait/biased title of the article. The title seems designed to effective against the left wing 40-percentilers so I juxtaposed it against one designed to be effective against right wing 40-percentilers. And just so there is no confusion, I am mentally pigeonholing you as someone who is probably in the 40 percentile. Go back to digging up gifs. You were better at that.

well you can't possibly believe that a national park with no visitor services is safer than the same park with functional visitor services. that's why i assumed you were joking

I don't know how much safer or un-safer that national parks are and neither do you(or the author of the article for that matter). Can't you see the deaths were mentioned in the title just to get people to read the article and get angry?

One thing's for sure. Gordo here isn't a DS gimmick.

i can come up with a logical prediction about their relative safety based on how much help might be around if someone got hurt at the park. it's less safe now with no visitor services there, for sure. how much isn't known, but we know which direction to look. well i do, anyway. you're non-jokingly suggesting it's safer.

it's accurate. unfortunately for your sensibilities it's both accurate and reflects negatively on trump, so your reactionary conservative brain caused you to come up with argument refuting it. an argument where you thank trump for saving lives by defunding the national parks where those people died (in areas that were not open during previous shutdowns)

The American people do not consider Trump a republican the same way they consider Obama as a democrat. Obama and the democrats were perceived to be on the same team. Only brainwashed left thinks Trump and the republicans are on the same team. Because you have essentially three teams, congressional democrats, congressional republicans, and Trump the situation is a little different. Its different not in a good way for the democrats.

The democrats won't make a deal with Trump. The democrats won't make a deal with congressional republicans. So it looks like the democrats are throwing their own temper tantrum and shutting the government down. That is why the poll came out the way it did. Democrats and Trump will get the blame not the congressional republicans.

What concrete steps are necessary to end the shutdown? Can Trump just unilaterally declare the government open again or does congress have to pass anything?

Cool cool cool, what do you think Trump's approval rating is from Republican voters? Gotta be like 50% right?

I don’t know that guy so I know he’s not speaking for all The American People.
01-05-2019 , 03:23 PM
Lol who the **** is this guy. If you think the democrats are the ones throwing a tantrum right now, you're really not paying attention. Go back to chiefs planet

There's already a bill that's passed the old Republican House and would pass the Republican Senate but McConnell won't bring it to the floor because Trump would veto it because it doesn't have funding for the wall.

I said it looks like they are throwing a tantrum. I didn't say they were. The poll suggests its the congressional democrats and Trump that are getting the blame for the shutdown. I was offering an explanation for this that was a little more meaningful than "people are brainwashed" that the other guy offered.

No it isn't. It's because the choice offered in the poll requires a single decision on who is "most responsible". Opponents of Trump and Republicans might blame them both but the poll forces them to make a binary choice.

Perhaps the most obvious demonstration of this is the YouGov poll from the 2013 shutdown. When respondents were able to give multiple answers to the question of who was most responsible for the shutdown the responses were as follows:
  • Democrats: 28%
  • Republicans: 53%
  • Obama: 38%

But when respondents were limited to a single answer these were the results:
  • Democrats: 6%
  • Republicans: 45%
  • Obama: 30%

The method used to ascertain the results is far more important than you're giving credit for.

have you seen how many of those lazy mother****ers stand around doing nothing in the security/screening area? they can definitely handle losing a few
01-05-2019 , 06:34 PM
TSA's annual budget is $7.5 billion, Dems should offer that money for the wall instead and make the airlines pay for their own security.

Next poll should be: “how long won’t it last”
