Well you're right on one thing, they're not deregulated anymore.
Sarbannes-Oxley and margin requirements are relaxed, we get the meltdown. Energy is "deregulated", we get Enron. But of course, in AC-land neither of these remotely amount to a shred of cause-effect or evidence that less regulation might not be a good thing, or that maybe there was a decent reason for those regs in the first place.
And now we get to the "in before cognitive dissonance" part of our show where you hand-wave away with some vague assertion that just because less regulation = bad, does not mean zero regulation won't still result in a bountiful utopia for all.
