food regulations only increase the price of food. please learn what bureaucracy is asap

Why is this tired and trite topic infesting this thread? Do we really need another thread where people are shocked, shocked I tell you, that institutions like the USDA came to inspect food?

I've found that definitive statements like these are always wrong.

This is true. On occasion, food regulations make food safer.

The only real question is, is the cost worth the result? I don't know, but nobody wants to talk about that anyway. If a billion dollars will save a life, then it was money well spent. Or a million. Or ten billion. Doesn't matter.

So here we have Speaker Boehner and President Obama announcing that an "agreement" has been reached and a government shutdown has been averted. It would appear that my "prediction" (of a Government shutdown) has turned out to be wrong. I beg to differ.

I am claiming a "technical" victory as the Government is now in a "technical" shutdown. The current Continuing Resolution (CR) expired half an hour ago with no new CR in place - and the vote for this "short term bridge" CR is not scheduled for a vote in the House for the next 72 hours. So the Government is now technically operating without a budget. Plus, neither the President (or Speaker Boehner) guaranteed that this short term bridge CR will pass a House vote, so the budget is still up in the air.

The real battles are still ahead. Just wait until they start fighting over raising the debt ceiling another TWO TRILLION dollars as well as the 2012 budget battles. It will be interesting watching how the Tea Party folks react to this "agreement" being forced down their throats. This war ain't over.

Last Minute Update: At least one segment of the Tea Party is steamed. MSNBC just splashed a tweet (reputedly from a Tea Party representative) that "Speaker Boehner has sold us out!" The tweet went on to declare that the Tea Party will mount a primary challenge against Speaker Boehner in the next election. Now it's really getting personal!

And, of course, microscopes only work for federal bureaucrats. Mere mortals can never comprehend their complicated workings.

Ok I'm pretty sure you're just trolling now. No one can be that obtuse. It's been fun dusting off my old pvn doll for a few days, but I'm going to put you back on the shelf now.

If a robot driven car kills 10 people, it's a psychopath. No way that's a coincidence.

My conclusion is that deregulation works because people tend not to want to get sued and/or have angry mobs appearing at their farm, so they play nice. Deregulation allows for competitive markets and lower prices. I have seen farmers markets shut down because of bureaucracy, and there is something very wrong with this.

Yeah deregulation worked so well with the banking and energy industries, why the heck not try it with food and drugs?

Because remember the only possible solution to a bureaucracy anywhere ever overstepping its bounds - is to shut it down completely and abolish it. No other less draconian fix is ever possible.

In before cognitive dissonance.

Big difference between banking and food, you know, that stuff you need to survive. When the FDA starts banning naturally grown substances, then that is totalitarianism. Farmers got along fine here before the FDA, remember.

Or, just keep trusting incompetents and liars, show goes on.

So wait, if YOU'RE being serious, please explain what the magic government inspectors can do that dumb old proles can't. Microscopes? Really?

We should try convincing him that Obama is trying to deregulate the medical industry. It should work no prob if he bought that about the energy and banking industries.
